About the role: The Scrum Master is one of three roles in the product/engineering team that is responsible for rapid delivery of high quality features. The other two roles are developers and navigators/product owners.
The scrum Master is a servant-leader role that enables the team to self-organize/manage and focus. (S)he also facilitates continuous improvement. (S)he has experience from working in joint product/engineering teams before (s)he transitioned into a scrum master role.
The scrum master has a leading role in the team (together with the product owner and tech lead) but works with the whole team
Essential Duties: Guiding the team and organization on how to use Agile principles, practices and values to delight customers.
Guiding the team on how to get the most out of self organization.
- Guiding the team on self organizing to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile frameworks.
- Assessing the Agile Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization.
- Removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment.
- Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving.
- Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work.
- Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution.
- Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
- Supporting and educating the Product Organization, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog.
- Supporting and educating the Engineering Organization, especially with respect to agile engineering practices.
- Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example.
Technical Requirements: - Deep understanding of Agile approaches like Scrum, XP, Crystal, FDD, etc.
- Deep understanding of widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, User story mapping, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games.
- Deep understanding of change management
- Understanding of Facilitation Techniques
- Understanding of Lean approaches like Lean UX, Lean Start-up, Kanban, KaiZen
- Deep understanding of Conflict Management
- Understanding of Problem solving and Analysis techniques
- Understanding of Modeling Languages and Techniques like UML, Conceptual Modeling
- Understanding of Agile Testing
- Understanding of Agile Roadmapping and Requirements
- Understanding of agile tools, like Jira.
Experience Required: - A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience as described below.
- Experience working as an Agile Coach or Scrum Master for at least 3 years for a Product/software development team that was diligently applying Agile principles, practices, and theory.
- Experience of working with product development or software development for at least an additional 2 years
