Job Description:

The Professional Coding Supervisor is responsible for assisting the System Manager Professional Coding to manage the work flow and accuracy of all professional coding functions (i.e. ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS) under the direction of the System Director Coding & CDI for Essentia Health. Coordinates, plans and supervises daily activities of the Professional Coding staff which includes on-site Coders, remote based (U.S. located) Coders, and vendors performing professional coding functions. Responsible for new hire and on-going staff training to ensure accurate and timely coding is performed in compliance with documentation, coding, and billing regulatory requirements to ensure proper reimbursement. Position requires high level of customer service skills to establish and enhance positive relationships with medical staff, senior leadership and co-workers. Contributes to meeting the mission and goals of Essentia Health while following applicable federal, state laws and regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Work Experience:

Two (2) years of experience with ICD-9-CM / ICD-10-CM and CPT coding.

One (1) year management experience in an acute care facility coding function preferred.

OR

Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC).

Three (3) years of experience with ICD-9-CM / ICD-10-CM and CPT coding.

One (1) year management experience in an acute care facility coding function preferred.

Education Qualifications:

Graduate of an AHIMA accredited educational program for Health Information Management (RHIT eligible) and successfully write the RHIT exam.

Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
