The position is responsible for the supervision of laboratory staff that provide chemical testing and analyses. The candidate is responsible for managing the day to day laboratory testing, quality control of the laboratory, on time delivery of all jobs, technical report review as well as report writing, and maintenance of laboratory technical competency.
- Supervise day to day laboratory operation and on-time execution of projects.
- Train analyst on techniques and methods
- Assist Senior Laboratory Operations Supervisor in on time delivery of projects/jobs as well as the technical review of all reports
- Perform testing in accordance with specified methods. Document activities in accordance with ISO 17025.
- Ability to operate most any laboratory equipment or test apparatus (not just have a familiarity with) with appropriate training. Also assists in maintenance and trouble shooting of testing equipment.
- Must have ability to communicate with clients regarding technical questions relating to samples for testing, results reported, or problems encountered in the particular analysis.
- Order and maintain inventory of laboratory chemicals, consumables, and equipment necessary for the day to day functioning of the laboratory in a cost-effective manner.
- Perform various QC activities as required to maintain the laboratory in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements as well as internal Quality documents
- May be assigned additional responsibilities when needed
- Master's degree in Analytical Chemistry is preferred or a related science degree with five or more years related analytical experience. Have at least 1-2 years experience managing people. Bachelor's degree in Chemistry is acceptable with 7 years experience and at least 2 years managing people. Must have experience with ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation audits and requirements. Must have prior industry experience in testing Consumer Products for restricted substances (preferred but not required).
Must be able to work in fast paced environment without any delay to customers. Have strong attention to detail and understanding of operational efficiency.
- In depth knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques, methods, and equipment operation as well as a general understanding of basic chemistry
- Must be able to communicate clearly in English and have solid communication skills including grammar and composition.
- Be driven, creative, and efficient. Have the ability to provide a solution regardless of the problem and be able to thrive in a fast paced, high intense environment
- Ability to work hand in hand with Senior Laboratory Operations Supervisor with full transparency at all times. Have ability to work well with others, clients, sales team as well as work independently.
- Must be able to meet all deliverables daily and organize team members to achieve this properly.
- Must have a background in complex matrices such as plastics, coatings, metals, and mixed media substrates.
Knowledge of Consumer product testing is necessary. Familiarity with Prop 65, ROHS, REACH, CPSC, and other isimilar ndustry regulations.
Knowlege of digestion techniques (hotplate, microwave, and hot block) are required. Have experience with Analytical Inorganic analysis techniques (outside of academia) are required, ICP-MS operation is needed. Actual Industry Experience is required for this position.
