PRIMARY PURPOSE AND JOB FUNCTION
Working in accordance with established policies and procedures and/or specific instructions from the Charge Nurse, the Staff Nurse is responsible for hands on resident care, proper and timely administration of medications and treatments, accurate verbal and written reports and rapid response to any/all emergency situations. Responsible for demonstrating understanding, patience, tact and courtesy in dealing with employees, residents, residentsmily and visitors. Ability to supervise staff and maintain good working relationships with staff. The position of Staff Nurse may be staffed by either an R.N. or an L.P.N.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position is under the direction of the Director or Assistant Director of Nursing
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Job Functions: During emergencies or natural disasters, you may be required to report for duty as assigned by the Director of Nursing and/or Administrator for the duration of the disaster.
Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
Has overall supervisory responsibility on weekends for Health Care Center and maintains any necessary communication with Director and/or Assistant Director of Nursing/Risk Manager.
Performs duties of front line supervisor to other nursing staff including Certified Nursing Assistants.
May perform professional nursing services which includes but is not limited to resident assessments, recording vital signs, administering medications, enemas, catheterization, suctioning, intravenous fluids (if applicable), sterile technique dressings, set-up and following isolation techniques, set-up and administration of oxygen, physical and emotional caring techniques.
Assess and assist in implementing restorative and rehabilitative nursing for residents by communicating the instruction in activities of daily living or other self-help techniques as outlined in the resident care plan.
Makes rounds on a regular basis assessing resident needs and appearance of facility, verifying resident needs are being met.
Responds to emergency needs within the Health Center and the residential buildings.
Responsible for timely documentation of written reports and verbal report on any/all unusual or abnormal observations, emergency care, resident needs, family concerns, change in physicianrders, narcotic records, follow-up care, resident care plan revisions, any/all changes related to ensuring that quality resident care is provided and staff incident reports are handled appropriately.
Communicates with resident, family, friends, Health Center staff, pharmacy and others as necessary on resident needs and concerns in a professional manner.
Responds with both verbal and physical communication in an endeavor to meet all emotional, physical, social, and spiritual needs of residents, families, and staff members.
Assigns nursing personnel to specific jobs and spot checks work to ensure Health Center standards are met.
Attends in-service training and educational seminars as needed to maintain professional license and keep abreast of current nursing practices.
Relates an accurate and thorough report to the on coming shift in order to ensure the continuity of maximum residentare.
SPECIFICATIONS Education: Must have the ability to read, write and speak English. Must be a graduate of an approved school of nursing and posses a current nursing license to practice nursing in the state of Florida.
Experience: Geriatric nursing background preferred.
HOURS ARE EVERY OTHER WEEKEND
7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
AND EVERY OTHER MOMDAY 3:00 -11:00
