Functions/Duties of Position
The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
This position reports to the Division Head of Pediatric Pulmonology
The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology in the Department of Pediatrics at OHSU is seeking a full-time Pediatric Pulmonologist. Doernbecher Children's Hospital at OHSU is the teaching hospital for pediatrics in the state of Oregon with a full complement of sub-specialists and fellow programs. The successful candidate will join a team of 5 Pediatric Pulmonologists to provide care and teaching to the Doernbecher clinical and educational programs.
The division of Pediatric Pulmonology takes care of children with acute and chronic lung disease and is home to the Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Center at OHSU. The division's clinical service consists of a busy 24 hour inpatient service and a variety of outpatient clinics including team clinics for patients with cystic fibrosis and a multi-disciplinary clinic with pediatric otolaryngology and gastroenterology for patients with aero-digestive concerns. The team also provides medical direction to the inpatient and outpatient respiratory therapy team, performs flexible bronchoscopy procedures and participates in the pediatric sleep program. The team is responsible for interpreting the pulmonary function tests performed at Doernbecher and for the majority of pediatric sleep studies conducted through the sleep program. Clinic patients are seen in the Doernbecher, Westside, Hatfield, and Medford clinic sites. The division also has a contract with five western states to perform newborn screenings on infants with suspected cystic fibrosis as well as several sub awards conducting basic science research, and is currently running 12-18 sponsored clinical trials at a time. The cystic fibrosis clinical research team is comprised of 3 pediatric investigators and 3 full time research coordinators. The Pediatric Pulmonary division also has weekly Quality Teametings and monthly pulmonary clinic operations meetings (lean focused).
The duties of this position include:
Clinical: Provides excellent clinical care in the outpatient, inpatient, and outpatient outreach locations. Provides care that is compliant with all regulatory guidelines (CMS, JCAHO, and American Board of Medicine) and shares the clinical call and inpatient coverage with division colleagues.
Education: Teaches residents, medical students and all trainees and support staff. Teaching and mentoring trainees may be through lectures, presentations, rounds, shadowing, and participation in clinical courses. The ability to give constructive feedback and demonstrate competence in teaching is required.
Scholarship: Opportunities for scholarly research that result in improved clinical practice, understanding, detecting and treating diseases or improving the education foundation within pediatric medicine or pediatric pulmonology of sleep medicine are available and strongly encouraged.
Other duties: Administrative and advocacy duties may also be assigned or sought within the division, hospital or academic department.
Job Requirements Required Qualifications: - Licensed MD and eligible for license in the states of Oregon and Washington.
- Board certification or eligibility for specialty board certification in Pediatrics/Pediatric Pulmonology.
- Completion of an accredited Pediatric Residency and a Pediatric Pulmonology fellowship.
- Demonstrated competence in research, clinical care and teaching.
