Additional Information Purpose Support Chef. Train, supervise and produce high volume, quality food in all areas of Cafe. Provide oversight and coordination of all catering and Cafe food production. Maintain food inventory levels, receive all incoming food. Coordinate cold food production menus for catered events. Plate food for Cafe customers.
Essential Functions Execute the preparation for the daily buffet as well as performing duties as a supervisor to prepare food to be served at catered functions, Commons Cafe and offsite locations ensuring maintenance of high quality standards. Ability to multi-task on the fly and understand the importance of team work. Perform catering production as assigned. Perform quality control for taste, flavor and presentation of food. Communicate effectively with team members and serve as a backup for other members of the staff as needed. Constant awareness of professional staff development of team members. Ensure customers receive proper attention and correct portions. Follow recipe cards including portion control and quality standards. Perform quality production in all areas. Check and ensure proper food delivery and storage. Has a good working knowledge of inventory and products necessary to perform designated tasks. Respond to supervisor requests in a timely manner. Promote team working environment. Lead by example. Assist in staff development and production as needed. Interact with customers in a friendly and professional manner. Conduct all interactions with respect for others. Maintain a sanitary and organized work area. Observe safety and accident free procedures. Adhere to posted schedule and participate in the daily cleaning of kitchen and equipment and report any equipment needing repair. Report to work on time, in complete uniform and show good personal hygiene. Maintain professional appearance at all time. Review and prepare for daily and weekly activities by using weekly and daily event function sheets.
Marginal/Incidental functions
Perform related duties as required. May train full-time and part-time employees in the use of machinery and equipment. Other related functions as assigned. Lead coordinator with HealthPoint to identify nutritionally friendly food.
Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
Required qualifications Licenses required. 3 years as Sous chef in a hotel setting, culinary degree or equivalent. Over 1 year experience maintaining inventory control, purchasing, and supervising staff. Over 2 years of experience in food management in high or restaurant environment serving high volume production. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environmnet, prioritize, multi task and adapt to different situations. Have and maintain a current ServSafe Certificate or a current Travis County Food Handlers Card. Demonstrated ability to receive, respond, and follow through with verbal work related instructions from supervisors, customers, and co-workers. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills. Professional demeanor. Licenses needed. Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Good working knowledge of computer. A criminal history background check will be required for finalists under consideration for this position. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS continued. Candidates selected for interview will be asked to perform a 30 minute Hands On test. If hired, you will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification form, I-9. You will be required to present acceptable, original documents to prove your identity and authorization to work in the United States. Information from the documents will be submitted to the federal E-Verify system for verification. Documents must be presented no later than the third day of employment.
