We are currently seeking a Safety & Training Supervisor for our Customer Service Center (CSC) in Minetto, NY.
Responsibilities: LEADERSHIP
- Lead, design, develop and implement initial and recurrent training programs for transportation personnel.
- Supervise safety training assistants by establishing objectives, standards, work schedules and accountability for job performance.
- Proactively recruit individuals to apply and train them to become School Bus Drivers
- Make hiring recommendations to the General Manager on whether to hire certified school bus drivers.
- Develop and implement annual and multi-year training programs to train sufficient number of drivers to properly resource local CSC and assure successful start-up of new service programs; training schedule would also include orientation and safety training sessions.
- Assist in managing company-wide license qualification, continuing driver education and training.
- Schedule and perform new employee orientation.
- Provides on-going training and performance evaluations for all Driver employees
- Lead training needs assessments for CSC in consultation with GM.
COMPLIANCE
- Identifies training needs for compliance with state certification and District/State/Federal requirements
- Provide classroom instruction and behind the wheel training of applicants and bus drivers to ensure successful completion of training and testing to the level of State Certified School Bus Driver; recommend upgrades as necessary
- Refresh and broaden the driving skills of existing employees who operate Company leased/owned vehicles
- Supervise compliance with Company policies and/or processes by action and speech. Discuss any breech of policy and procedure noted with General Manager.
- Perform a Driver Proficiency Evaluation on each driver (including road evaluation) at least twice during the school year. Initiate necessary retraining.
- Administer and maintain Company random drug/alcohol testing and pre-employment drug/alcohol testing program in conjunction with Corporate office.
- Provide notice to drivers of upcoming expiration dates of various documents and ensure their renewal (physicals, driver licenses, school bus certificates, and First Aid Certificates).
- Obtain Driver Abstracts from State agencies for all drivers semi-annually and monitor for violations.
SAFETY
- Document and maintain all training records as required by State and Federal regulations and Company policies. Files shall be maintained to document the progress of each Trainee and all In-Service training for each Driver in accordance with Company policy and procedures.
- Develop and conduct regularly scheduled Driver Safety Meetings.
- Supervise the Accident Review Committee, maintain minutes of each meeting, review and discuss Committee recommendations with the General Manager. Initiate driver retraining according to Company guidelines.
- Assume primary responsibility in responding to personal injury and vehicle accidents by on-scene investigation and preparing and submitting reports to the Corporate office in accordance with Company policy.
- Investigate customer service complaints relative to safety issues and take appropriate corrective action.
- Develop and implement student/customer safety awareness programs.
- Provide First Aid Classes, Defensive Driving, Industrial Injury Prevention and other company sponsored programs as necessary.
- Administer and maintain Company Safe Driver Award Program.
OPERATIONS
- Coordinate the daily operations (driving, routing, and vehicle activities)
- Interact and attend meetings with School District Representatives
- Coordinate operations activities with the General Manger
- Ensure appropriate, accurate routing materials are developed and available to the Drivers
- Serve as a Cover Driver, Router or Dispatcher as needed
- Oversee some of the centerdministrative functions
Knowledge and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of adult training techniques and practices including needs assessments, development learning goals and objectives, selection of learning media, developing training materials, evaluating effective of training and record keeping of all programs
- Knowledge of the local environment (e.g. customers, geography, trends and developments) to customer and community needs are met.
- Knowledge of leadership and management practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of the companies, service promise, services, capabilities, policies, procedures and practices to effectively manage CSC personnel.

Qualifications - Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred.
- Years of Work Experience: 5+ yearsrk experience required; 3 years in school bus transportation industry preferred.
- Must complete state certification program or Durham's Training Academy for school bus driver instructor. Equivalent work experience as a Training Manager can be substituted as appropriate.
- License or Certification: SBDI certification required; Commercial Drivericense with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements required;
- No preventable accidents in the past 36 and acceptable driving performance in the past 36 months is required
- Supervisory experience; specifically experience supervising/training a driver workforce
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and transportation related software
- Strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and group presentation skills
- Well-developed multi-tasking and time management skills
- Desired Skills: bi-lingual abilities a plus
