JOB TITLE: Distribution Supervisor of 3rd Shift Operations
DEPARTMENT: Distribution
JOB SUMMARY - Under general direction and guidance, leads all shift activities and assures the timely shipments of orders processing during respective shift utilizing warehouse management systems. Prepares, monitors, records and reports information regarding shift performance and progress. As necessary, cover other departments and overtime shifts in absence of shift Supervisor. Complete understanding of warehouse management systems, and distribution operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Regularly leads and monitors employeeerformance to assure a smooth workflow and maximum productivity in a highly automated environment. Thorough training, coaching and experimentation help to design, seek approval and implement process and productivity enhancements.
- Supervisor assures departmental adherence to Good Distribution Practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and ISO 9000 requirements. Also responsible to ensure SOPre up to date.
- As required hires, discharges, evaluates and disciplines employees in accordance with current personnel policies.
- Complete understanding of distribution workflows and distribution plans, participates in and is responsible for departmental planning regarding staffing, production supplies and inventories. Orders and maintains all supply inventories related to the department.
- Supervisor assures that all Material Handling Systems in the area are functional, working properly, and that all operators are properly trained in their use.
- Interacts with other departments, including customer service, training, management as required to expedite critical orders, track and seek resolution for distribution related issues.
- As required, leads activities between shifts to insure a smooth and efficient product flow and adherence to picking and shipping schedules.
- Assists in and/or initiates data collection activities designed to identify and report on distribution trends relating to efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Remains in communication with all levels of distribution management advising them of day to day activities. Takes appropriates/immediate action to resolve any concerns or issues.
- Supervisor is responsible for staffing, training, and employee relations to achieve picking and shipping goals, following SOP and ISO requirements. Provides project, cost improvement, and leadership support while promoting a safe work environment.
- Supervisor is responsible for reviewing and accurately reporting of Work Force Management (WFM) to employees and manager on a daily/weekly basis.
- Establish and drive continuous improvement efforts to maximize efficiencies in the organization
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES - Microsoft Office, Warehouse Management System. RedPrairie and BAAN experience a plus.
- Solid understanding of warehouse management systems, transportation systems, labor management, Distribution workflows, and ISO 9000.
- Must be able to lead and facilitate a well-trained workforce.
- Supervisor should possess skills to utilize the concept of continuous improvement and change management.
WORK ENVIRONMENT - Normal warehouse and office environment with some exposure to dust, heat, cold, and noise. Ability to perform light to medium physical work, exerting up to 40-50 pounds of force occasionally, and performing such activities as lifting, keying, stooping and bending.
EXPERIENCE - At least three plus years experience in a supervisory or management capacity. Must have four to six years experience in Distribution or Warehouse environment. Previous experience in a FDA and ISO regulated environment a plus.
EDUCATION - Associates degree required with primary emphasis on business management or equivalent. Bachelor degree preferred.
