City Solutions (CS) is established within Shell's New Energies with a mission to help cities, communities and private sector navigate energy transition through integrated urban solutions. While every city is unique, there are five emerging fundamental needs to build sustainable and smarter cities of the future. These can be categorised under Energy, Environment, Mobility, Living and Urban Planning. At this juncture, Shell City Solutions will focus on Environment, Energy and Mobility.
City Solutions takes a holistic view of the needs of the customer (cities, communities and private sector players) in their energy transition aspirations and offers commercially viable integrated urban solutions across Shell's capabilities and with external partners. City Solutions adopts a key account management approach to offer one face to the customer, while integrating solutions across various Shell businesses and with external partners.
The Innovation Partnership Lead manages the Innovate team within City Solutions. The focus of the team is to:
- Develop commercially viable integrated urban solutions across Shell's capabilities and with external partners
- Strong understanding of Shell technology offers across Shell businesses
- Identify and build up relationships with technology partners from: IHLs, research institutes, government local technology companies
- Work closely with the Commercial team and customers to understand city stakeholders' urban needs in mobility, energy and environment, co-vision and create solutions to address those needs, invite customers to co-innovate and testbed with Shell
- Identify promising near-market technologies to bring to market
- Pursue possible further funding from government agencies
- Strong linkage to Technical Support and NERT teams
- The Innovation Partnership Lead is responsible forleading the development of integrated urban solutions for Shell's city solution customers. The IL responsibility is for the technical assessment of Shell customers energy and economic requirements and then defining the integrated solution of energy efficiency and distributed energy resources that deliver a compelling value proposition
- Research and monitor existing customer, industry partners and technical developments, and working with Commercial team and delivery partners to define customer CVPs in new solution and product opportunities.
- Analyze technical and energy economics of prospective projects using internally developed or externally sourced and validated tools working with the analytics team or external consultants.
- Work with technology and product vendors to select optimal components to fit specific customer/project requirements using systematic trade studies and tools.
- Identify turnkey DER solutions that can be architected into solution templates and standard Shell offerings that can be scaled by our delivery partners.
- Launch and Shell solutions offerings through the development of prototype projects that validate fitness and expected operation of new solutions and products.
- Create standard project development workflow for each new solution and shell product to enable scalable delivery of incremental projects by delivery team
- Work with Implement team to enable scalable new project development based on portfolio of solutions.

Requirements: - Bachelors required or Masters / PhD degrees preferred in engineering, applied science or other technical degree.
- Deep knowledge and experience in deployment of the New Energies technologies:
- Integrated designs and sizing of renewable generation & conventional generation
- Design of battery storage systems; design choices between different battery chemistries and battery management systems against use profiles
- Conventional synchronous generation technologies (gas engine, OCGT, CCGT, CHP)
- Control systems and electrical engineering designs in micro- to mini-grid, to grid connected.
- Inverter types and technologies, grid forming/following, real and reactive power control etc.
- Optimisation strategies of battery dispatch for a variety of use cases
- EV charging solutions
- Solar home systems, Smart metering technologies, Off-grid electrification
- Thorough understanding of electricity market structures and the various ancillary service offerings to ensure grid stability
- Combining thorough technical expertise with the capability to communicate effectively to non-technical customers and specialist technology partners
- Capability to effectively network into P&T organization, to leverage capabilities in electrical and other expertise groups
- Techno-economic evaluations of conceptual design options
- Strong external network, experience and insights relevant to new energy technology and business model development. (e.g. with EPC's, innovators, entrepreneurs, OEMs, industry associations, regulatory bodies, research institutes etc.).
- Strong communicator across multiple platforms
- Logical but lateral thinker to create and apply innovative solutions for customers
- Experience leading customer project requirement reviews to distill CVPs into specific solution and product technical requirements.
- Experience performing technical and analytical energy assessments of prospective projects to generate projected system behavior and energy economics for use in project financial pro formas for building energy systems and distributed energy resources,
- Exposure to emerging business models like IESP and DEBOOM
- Track record of building partnerships and working with service providers and JVs.
- Strong internal stakeholder and external customer communicator across multiple disciplines.
- A thought leader in his/her field and able to generate innovations, as well as influence the business direction in short and long term to improve competitiveness.
- Has demonstrated people management skills in larger complex organization of professionals
