Position Description POLITICAL SCIENCE - The Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo, California, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track academic year Assistant Professor with a specialization in empirical Law and Society to begin September 13, 2018. The successful candidate will have research expertise and the ability to teach courses in our pre-law concentration/Law & Society minor (e.g., judicial politics, judicial process, civil rights and/or constitutional law) as well as our undergraduate research design and/or quantitative methods courses. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work emphasizes issues of justice, diversity and inclusion.
An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Political Science or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered, but must provide proof that the doctorate was completed prior to appointment. Preference will be given to candidates whose areas of research and teaching emphasize issues of justice, diversity and inclusion as well as those with demonstrated excellence in university level teaching and research (commensurate with time since degree).
The typical teaching assignment is 12 units (three courses) per quarter, with correspondingly reasonable research and service expectations, and with a significant reduction in course load in the first two years to help establish an active program of research and professional development. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Faculty should build collaborative relationships across the University and with colleagues at other universities.
