Description UPMC's Corporate Finance Department is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to work in their Insurance Payer Provider Group. The ideal candidate has a strong background in SQL language and has the ability to construct business cases based on analyses of data and data needs. The position identifies and summarizes basic characteristics in data and trends in data patterns related to clinical programs and other indicators, investigates variances and errors in data and derive solutions, and writes SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from data warehouse for use in business case and financial model analysis. Responsibilities: - Act as a mentor for Financial Analysts or administrative staff.
- Analyze complex financial data and extract and define relevant information; interpret data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial probability.
- Develop financial reports for forecasting, trending, and results analysis.
- Interpret financial transactions and events for users who must make economic or business decisions.
- Perform complex statistical, cost, and financial analysis of data reported.
- Plan and conduct complex studies to determine cost of business activities. Recommend budget adjustments, and other cost improvement measures.
- Record, classify, and summarize financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Qualifications - Bachelors Degree in Finance or related business field and three years of related work experience is required.
- CPA/MBA preferred.
- Ability to create, transform data into analysis quality data preferred.
- Microsoft office with emphasis on spreadsheet application required and PeopleSoft General Ledger proficiency preferred.
- Proficient knowledge with SQL language/coding as well as working knowledge of analytic reporting packages such as Access, Excel, SAS, or SSRS preferred.
- Experience in health care insurance or health care industry preferred, but those with relevant experience in other industries may be considered.
- Ability to develop single and multi data sources to serve as the foundation of complicated analysis preferred.
- Experience using Oracle, Tableau, Cognos Framework, Cognos ReportNet, Cognos Transformer, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Visual Studio, Qlik, or other relevant software packages is preferred.
