The Senior Tax Analyst will also provide critical business process support through creation of reporting and business analysis related to U.S. sales/use tax, personal property tax, and U.S. federal and state income tax sensitive activity within the BMO Transportation Finance lease accounting system and other related systems. The Senior Tax Analyst will assist the Sales & Property Tax Senior Manager and Property Tax Manager for BMOTF with U.S. sales & property tax compliance, including but not limited to workpaper and return preparation, payment processing, audit support, and reconciliation of tax payments.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
The Senior Tax Analyst will design and execute reporting and analysis to support accurate and transparent compliance with all U.S. reporting requirements for the BMO Transportation Finance Business and will have strong research skills along with knowledge of U.S. sales/use and personal property tax laws and regulations. The incumbent will have a strong understanding of BMO Transportation Finance business processes, lease accounting systems, and related systemsta. The incumbent will assist the BMO Transportation Finance Tax Director and Senior Tax Managers with tax audit support and tax compliance processes as needed,
A. Business Deliver & Operational Effectiveness
· Using various business intelligence and analysis tools available within BMO Harris Bank N.A., create detailed reporting and analysis of BMO Transportation Finance activity related to sales/use, personal property , and U.S. income tax to aid with internal analysis, process improvement, and internal/external audits as needed
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of U.S. state and local sales/use and personal property tax laws, regulation, procedures and rulings related to or affecting commercial equipment finance
· Conduct tax research as needed to support the sales/use and personal property tax compliance function for the BMO Transportation Finance and BMO Equipment Finance businesses
· Prepare and maintain detailed and transparent workpapers and independent support for U.S. state and local sales/use tax returns for BMO Transportation Finance business
· Prepare U.S. state and local sales tax returns under the direction of Sales and Property Tax Senior Manager
· Prepare U.S. personal property tax returns under the direction of Property Tax Manager
· Support sales/use, and personal property tax audits as needed, including creation of reports and analysis, responding to document and data requests, and other reporting/analysis as needed
B. Client & Relationship Management
· Maintain strong relationships with BMO Harris Bank N.A. Corporate Tax, BMO Harris Equipment Finance tax, TF Tax Customer Service, and BMO TF Finance to ensure accurate and timely reporting of sales/use and property taxes in accordance with established standards and business
· Maintain relationships with external software and information vendors (e.g. Vertex, ThomsonReuters) to ensure that tax compliance software, information and processes are compliant with current tax laws and sufficient to accurately and efficiently report tax information generated by BMOTF line of business
C. Risk Management and Control
· Review and maintain internal risk controls from an audit standpoint to ensure that they are operating in such a way as to drive compliance.
· Support internal and external audits as necessary, making changes to processes and procedures as needed to appropriately manage risk
· Recommend and develop processes & procedures to streamline workflow while maintaining audit controls
D. Managerial Leadership

Qualifications BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: · Bacheloregree in accounting, finance or related field
· C.P.A. or related professional certification (e.g. CMI or Bar Admission)
· 2+ years sales tax compliance or related experience
· Experience with SAP Business Objects, or other enterprise business intelligence/reporting platforms
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: v Basic knowledge of U.S. sales/use tax law
v Some personal property tax experience preferred
v Ability to research state and local tax rules and return instructions
v J.D. or MST preferred
