ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Vice President of Software Development is responsible for the leadership of the software design, development and quality assurance teams for the Safety and Securities Technologies Group. In this role you will partner with product management to lead the ongoing innovation and evolution of the technology product platform and play a pivotal role in ensuring products lead the market and align to the organization strategy. Reporting to the President of the Safety and Security Technologies Group, you will be a member of a diverse leadership team both inside and outside of the technology team. You will lead a large, cross-functional / integrated team and partner closely with the technical operations organization to deliver roadmap commitments and support hosted and in-network deployments. We are looking for a leader with experience with both agile and traditional software methodologies and ability to guide the organization in aligning business practices and software methodologies. That said, we doneed you to be smarter than our smartest developer- your demonstrated personnel/schedule management and on-time delivery experience will far outweigh your technical expertise in our hiring decision.
PRIMARY DUTIES: * Provide leadership to the software engineering teams to include design, development and quality assurance.
- Partner with Product Management to understand immediate customer and longer term strategic needs. Using that understanding, work with Product Management to develop a product roadmap and a corresponding delivery schedule effectively balancing Product Management desires against resource utilization.
- Provide resource plans, budget tracking and forecasting. Manage the team to achieve target scope, schedule and cost objectives. Accomplish this while still supporting peer teams with the ultimate goal of quality products.
- Partner effectively with the technical operations and customer deployment teams to ensure the smooth deployment and support of our largely hosted products.
- Ensure company at large understands the needs of engineering. Specify when the technical debt must be addressed or infrastructure added and the cost of doing or not doing so.
- Formulate standards of performance for the department and lead the team in meeting those standards through the implementation of best practices and tool implementation. Primary goals should be predictability, efficiency, stability and visibility. Demonstrate success through the creation and tracking of targets and corresponding metrics.
- Work with peers to develop and maintain cross-organization processes ensuring high quality products and services are maintained. Lead software engineering teams in implementing and succeeding in process changes.
- As a key resource leader: Identify and create plan of action to strengthen bench talent, retain top talent and succession plan within the software engineering teams.
- Maximizing software engineering teams across multiple product lines through resource management and architectural vision/execution
- Influences across the organization, effectively leading change, originating ideas, and championing and gaining commitment.

- While not required, experience in telecommunications and/or public safety is desired.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field required.
- MBA or Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred
- 10+ years related experience with at least 7 years leading software engineering teams (design, architecture, development and quality assurance) in the creation of both hosted and in-network architectures and product platforms; desired not required
- Experience delivering high-availability, large-scale, heavy transaction volume, real- time software-as-a-service products including integration of 3rd party systems and data.
