Job Description The President provides leadership and management for a health care center(s) within a CHRISTUS ministry. The President is responsible for promoting the CHRISTUS Health mission, core values and vision and for operational effectiveness and quality of care and service for the health care center. In addition, the President is responsible for Associate, medical staff, sister community, and community relations and ensures that the services provided are responsive to the community's health needs and integral to the achievement of the CHRISTUS Health mission and vision.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: - Proactively supports the mission and vision of CHRISTUS Health. Demonstrates and expects others to demonstrate personal and professional behaviors consistent with CHRISTUS Health's mission, vision and values.
- Actively supports the development of the CHRISTUS culture and supports efforts for integration of the culture across the regional organization(s). Provides the leadership that supports the creation of a work environment filled with hope, dignity and mutual respect.
- Develops a middle management team that can effectively manage the delivery of services in collaboration with the medical staff, Associates, sister communities, other providers and the community served.
- Ensures the development and implementation of programs and practices that support the recruitment, development and retention of a competent and diverse workforce who contribute to the growth and success of the ministry.
- In collaboration with the President, CHRISTUS Spohn Health System, identifies potential strategic opportunities within the ministry and ensures implementation of the strategies and tactics in alignment with the CHRISTUS Health strategy and direction.
- Develops, for Regional Leadership approval, the operating and capital budgets consistent with the strategic plan and implements the approved capital and operating budgets for the health care center.
- In collaboration with Regional Leadership and Physician Integration, develops durable, flexible relationships with physicians.
- Consults, coordinates, communicates and cooperates with businesses, governments, citizen groups and other community participants to identify community health needs and facilitate the development of plans to meet these needs and improve the health status of the population.
- Demonstrates by personal leadership and action full support and commitment to integrity in all business transactions and relationships.
- Provides leadership in developing the culture and environment that supports integrity within the ministry.
- Acts as advocate for the poor and underserved in the community.
- Provides leadership and demonstrates active involvement in the community through membership on boards, community task forces and other community service efforts.
- Is accountable for the operational and financial performance of the health care center, ensuring stewardship of the organization's resources, providing ongoing assessment/analysis of operating results, facilitating processes that result in the elimination of duplicate resources and taking appropriate actions necessary to achieve the established objectives.
- Supports and utilizes the performance monitoring system to include standardization of mission, financial and clinical measurement for evaluation of outcomes.
- Participates, with the President, CHRISTUS Spohn Health System and other regional leaders, in the implementation of a managed care contracting plan that identifies leverage points in negotiating with payors and improves contracting outcomes. Allocates the appropriate staffing to achieve the plan and creates monitoring processes to evaluate results and make timely adjustments to ensure effective operating results.
- Fosters an environment which actively demonstrates that continuous quality improvement is an operating tenet of the organization; identifies and implements best practices and supports the transfer of such best practices to other organizations with CHRISTUS.
- Recruits, supports, evaluates, develops and disciplines direct reports to ensure the health care center has the right leaders and successors to achieve their goals.
- Recommends to the Regional Leadership the following:
- Sale, lease, mortgage, transfer, easement or encumbrance of real property in excess of a threshold dollar amount as required by Canon law.
- Any merger, acquisition, consolidation, liquidation or dissolution involving the health care center.
- Creation of new corporation/legal entity/member as a direct subsidiary of or partner with the health care center.
- Dissolution, liquidation or significant change to the local entity's or a region's designated Ministry property or other Ministry property, subject to bylaw restrictions.
- Supports CHRISTUS Health by assuming any other responsibilities that are mutually agreed upon to ensure the effective functioning of the CHRISTUS Health ministry.
Requirements POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: A. Education/Skills:
- MHA, MBA, MPH or other advanced health- or business-related degree required.
- Demonstrated interest and involvement in American College of Healthcare Executives as a member or a fellow.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with a variety of individuals including physicians, the general public, volunteers, and associates. Ability to motivate others. Ability to work in a rapidly changing and stressful environment. Ability to make independent decisions as necessary. Ability to solve management issues and direct numerous and varied operations. Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the necessary programs, goals, policies, and objectives that are necessary for providing quality care and maintaining a sound operation. Knowledge of hospital practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to health care.
B. Experience
- Seven (7) years of progressively responsible management experience in an acute care hospital setting, preferably in a hospital that is part of a health system. Catholic health care experience preferred.
