The Role The Vice President of Engineering is accountable for the performance of all Engineering related activities within MSS by providing strategic technical leadership, establishing and directing all aspects of the sectorngineering policies, objectives and initiatives based on long-term product and profitability goals.
The Engineering leaderrimary responsibility is to lead a team to cultivate innovative product solutions, develop ideas for new products or product enhancements, advance critical technology enablers, and execute product development projects that serve the Government/DoD, International and Commercial markets for the Sector.
This position is also responsible for supplying and maintaining adequate resources for all engineering functions in the pursuit of the sectortrategic goals and operational plans. Collaborate with MSS level Business Development and Business Area VP/GMs and in the identification and capture of new business.
The position requires flexibility to manage multiple customer requirements and geographically disperse staff seamlessly while using analytical and strategic skills to successfully win business and transition products into production. The VP of Engineering must be able to interact with Sector peers, Segment and Corporate technical leaders and diverse customers. The successful candidate is an experienced technical and business professional who is able to focus simultaneously on near and long term objectives.
Primary Responsibilities - Provide strategic leadership to the sector Engineering functions. Monitor and track all Engineering Initiatives throughout MSS to ensure a chain of accountability that runs through the division leads to the department managers and to the individual Engineers.
- Planning and execution of product development, from product definition through production transition, across all markets to meet sector goals and objectives.
- Manage the IRAD and Engineering department budgets and allocations.
- Champion the New Product Introduction process
- Drive technical excellence in the performance of Engineering tasks, which includes adherence to the schedule and budget allocated to these tasks.
- Develop relationships within the larger L3T organization to define, develop and leverage L3T core competencies to meet critical business needs.
- Build and lead the cross functional engineering organization dedicated to the ongoing advancement of the Engineering team and Sector product roadmaps. Be the voice of the Engineering function to articulate and advocate for the positions advanced by Engineering staff to other functions within the MSS organization.
- Work with the Engineering Management Team to conduct ongoing skills assessment and proactively address potential skills gaps. Lead and mentor the engineering management team to continue to develop strong technical leaders.
- Act as objective decision maker for high level / high impact engineering issues within the sector.
- Advise MSS President on all technical matters including problem resolution to complex issues.
- Provide technical reviews of key strategic proposals.
- Provide supporting analysis to sector leadership for potential merger and acquisition candidates.
- Working in conjunction with the Sector leadership, co-develop the organizationrowth and product strategy.
- Develop and support a culture of continuous improvement and best practices within the department and across the Sector.
- Develops a climate within the department to foster a high level of employee motivation, performance, and commitment. Oversees staffing plans and reviews work plans and schedules for each phase of a project in accordance with time limitations and funding.
- Represents organization with major customers and stakeholders.
- Write technical white papers to educate Engineering talent.
- Provides summaries to complex technical problems to a non-technical audience that includes customer and government senior leadership.
- Attends trade shows, conferences, and exhibitions that are aligned with sector growth strategy.

Qualifications Competencies, Abilities, Qualifications and Experience
BS of Science ineering, Science, Mathematics, or equivalent, Masteregree Preferred in Science, Engineering Management or MBA
Must have 15+ yearsrk experience in a similar role or equivalent.
Program/Project Management: Ability to coordinate and administer programs, activities and protocols. Ability to manage resources, monitor activities and assess environmental risk, safety, and quality control associated with the program.
Professional Knowledge: Advanced level of technical engineering skill/knowledge and the ability to keep up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise.
Must have a current Security Clearance or be able to obtain a Security Clearance
