Work Schedule, Hours, FTE, Salary Range
- FTE: 1.0, Full Time
- Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
- Salary Range: $16.47-$21.95 per hour
- Location: Portland, OR (South Waterfront, CLSB)
- Job Type: Union Represented (AFSCME)
Functions/Duties of Position
The Dental Assistant 2, under the supervision of a licensed dentist, provides chair side assistance to dentists, dental students, dental hygienists, or dental technicians. Some employees in this class may perform clerical duties such as appointment scheduling, billing, and maintaining patient records.
This position provides support as needed to predoctoral clinics and specialty clinics including pediatric dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, oral & maxillofacial surgery, and faculty dental practice.
Job Requirements REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Two years of chair side dental assisting; OR
- Completion of a Dental Assistant training program; OR
- Equivalent combination of experience and training
- Must have worked as a dental assistant within the last 5 years
- Passed the DANB exam for dental assisting/x-ray certification (does not require CDA)
- Certification by the Oregon State Board of Dentistry for Radiological Proficiency required
- Current valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card issued by the American Heart Association required
- Demonstrable record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance at past and present employers
- Demonstrated exemplary tact, discretion, confidentiality and diplomacy
- Demonstrated record of exemplary customer service experience
- Occasional assistance during dental procedures using high-speed handpieces
- Appropriate protective attire required
- Use of dental gowns required in clinic and clinic-related areas (laboratory, sterilization rooms)
- Will occasionally need to lift up to 30 lbs (supplies)
- May need to lift patients to/from wheelchairs or transport beds
- Ability to stand/walk for 4 continuous hours a day
- Environmental exposures include: blood, body fluids, needle sticks, nitrous oxide, scalpel cuts, and minimum radiation
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Completion of an accredited Dental Assistant training program
- Experience working in a specialty dental practice (e.g. pediatric dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery)
- Knowledge or experience in the use of computer scheduling program(s)
