What is the opportunity?
In this position, the Vice President candidate will be responsible for leading client dialogue across the origination, syndication, and execution of high grade debt transactions. He/she will also work closely with other product groups within fixed income (i.e. derivatives, sales & trading, liability management), and investment banking to determine appropriate hedging, capitalization, and liquidity strategies for financial institution, specifically insurance company, clients.
The Vice President should be comfortable in a client facing role, and be able to function independently within his/her coverage universe without meaningful senior officer (MD/D) support. He/she will have direct client interaction, leading the preparation of meeting agendas and pitchbook materials, providing ongoing market color, assisting with strategic/episodic funding plans, and attending client meetings with bankers. The Vice President will also be responsible for overseeing certain internal procedures, including liaising with commitment committee, compliance, legal, and transaction management, as well as serving as a senior representative for the desk for recruitment and management of junior resources.
What will you do? - Maintain active financing dialogue with universe of RBC CM Insurance clients determined by the investment and corporate banking verticals and lending footprint, as well as based upon candidatexisting individual relationships (where applicable)
- Possess a strong understanding and knowledge base as it pertains to the Financial Institutions (Insurance) sector, including regulatory, tax, and accounting nuances/reforms and financial capital requirements in order to sufficiently pitch innovative solutions (i.e. hybrid capital, liquidity alternatives, liability management)
- Demonstrate ability to create unique content including slides detailing key market themes, structural innovations, and trade specific ideas
- Work closely with the Investment and Corporate banking, Institutional Client Management, and Corporate Risk Solutions teams to provide a institutionally coordinated approach to the firmnsurance clients; this includes significant travel requirements to meet with the (largely domestic) issuer client base
- Liaise with the syndicate desk to expand coverage of the Funding Agreement () backed note issuer base, leveraging RBCxisting relationships and establishing new contacts within that universe
- Accompany clients on deal- and non-deal related marketing trips and coordinate closely with sales and trading colleagues to identify secondary market trends, opportunities for RBC CM to create value via strategic buybacks, asset swaps, etc.
- Work with Corporate Risk Solutions professionals to enhance the quality of the dialogue around hedging/investments across both the asset and liability side of the balance sheet is is particularly relevant for Insurance company clients with large securities portfolios, and a key focus for FICC management in 2018
- Assist in the recruitment and time management of junior talent within the group

- Escalate operational risk loss events, control deficiencies and risks that you identify to your line manager and the relevant risk and control functions on a timely basis.

- Bacheloregree (business, finance or related field preferred)
- Series 7, 63 and 79 certified
Nice-to-have
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Willingness to travel, including overnight trips
- Previous Debt Capital Markets or Insurance industry coverage experience preferred
