Responsibilities and Qualifications This position is responsible for leading the Blackhawk Business Unit within the Vista Outdoor portfolio of brands. It has P&L responsibility for the iconic Blackhawk tactical brand along with a small portfolio of complimentary brands including Uncle MikeEagle, and Gun Mate. This is a $90M business which is poised for growth under the guidance of the right leader. The successful leader will have a strong military, tactical, or law enforcement background with enthusiasm for and strong ties to the industry. However, they will also bring 10-15+ years of progressive experience leading and growing business(s) through strong general management skills and excellent business acumen in a multi-channel environment including big-box, specialty retail and e-commerce. They must have a proven track record of building and executing a compelling business strategy which includes understanding and accurately segmenting the market place then developing and launching innovative products which deliver sustainable growth through greater market share. They must also have a strong operations background with the ability to continuously drive costs out while sustaining quality and maintaining an unyielding focus on safety.
Specific Expectations:
- Manage the full P&L of the Blackhawk! business (including the Uncle MikeEagle and Gun Mate brands).
- Build and manage to an annual strategic plan which includes realistic long and short term objectives, then drive that plan through all aspects of the business including sales, marketing and operations leading to sustained growth.
- Build a great team of committed leaders and coach and mentor them for future opportunities.
- Build a strong culture, leveraging the intense pride for the great brands within the portfolio and enthusiasm for the industry.
- Monitor industry trends and anticipate opportunities for greater market share through innovation and enhanced product quality.
- Constantly look for ways to improve gross margins through both accretive innovation and operational efficiencies.
- Constantly look for ways to improve working capital, including aggressively managing inventory across the portfolio.
Organization:
This position is based in Manhattan (Bozeman area), Montana and will report to the President of the Outdoor Products Group. Directly reporting to this position include heads of Sales, Operations, Finance, plus product line managers for each of the key business segments. They will also be supported by HR, IT, Law, and Comms/Gov. Relations.
Experience: - BS degree required, MBA or masters level degree in a related field is preferred.
- Direct experience with full P&L ownership for a brand or brands in a similar, consumer durable goods business.
- Successful launch of innovative products with previous organizations.
- Experience with building and leading a great team and a strong culture within a company.
- Military, law enforcement, tactical, or related industry experience a must.
- Experience working as part of a larger corporation is preferred.
