Functions/Duties of Position
The Vice President/Chief Risk Officer is responsible for the day to day operations of OHSU Insurance Company and management of the captive program, as well as directing, planning and overseeing the Risk Management Department in support of institutional goals and mission. S/He is responsible for the following deliverables: analysis, input and decision-making on risk management issues that directly impact the strategic direction of OHSU; implementation of strategic risk management vision and delivery of that strategy to OHSU leadership using exceptional leadership skills, network of internal and external alliances and highly developed business skills. Along with the Chief Clinical Officer and Chief Medical Officers s/he oversees clinical risk mitigation efforts and acts as a catalyst between administration, physicians and staff, as well as serves as the liaison to attorneys, insurance companies and individuals to ensure continuity and quality of service and care. S/he exhibits business risk process knowledge, has a broad based operational perspective and provides solutions for insurance and non-insurance related business risk issues. S/he is a proactive and decisive leader who adapts well to, and initiates change in, the organization; who seeks ways to optimize the management of risks in the organization as a competitive business advantage and who drives optimal performance from all areas on risk management issues.
Job Requirements Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree (or additional 4 years' experience in lieu of degree)
Minimum 15 years' experience in the following areas:
- Working in a senior level capacity in an academic health center environment
- Influencing strategic direction and realizing strategic goals
- Managing day to day operational issues in a Risk Management department
- Large budgets management
- Supervising leaders with management responsibilities
- Managing all aspects of a captive insurance operations
- Experience in insurance and reinsurance purchasing in domestic and international markets.
Knowledge of administrative process related to legal/administrative risk management needs.
Competency with legal/risk/insurance issues.
Excellent professional judgment, project management and team building skills.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Capacity and desire to work in customer service oriented program.
Ability to effectively present information to top management and public groups.
Ability to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to communicate and/or appropriately refer multiple types of customers from a variety of levels.
ARM or CPHRM.
Preferred Qualifications: JD or Nursing degree.
Experience in communicating to audiences with widely disparate backgrounds.
Experience in upper or senior management environment, emphasis in project monitoring, experience with OHSU mission and policies.
