The Vice President for University Advancement is responsible for effectively leading a cohesive team in donor development, donor relations, donor stewardship and alumni relations. The Vice President also ensures coordination of the fundraising efforts throughout the university to support PLNUriorities. The Vice President reports to the President and is a member of the Administrative Cabinet.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES - Serve as the universityhief development officer and care for a major donor portfolio.
- Develop and lead the comprehensive advancement strategies toward fulfillment of the universityriorities.
- Increase fundraising through comprehensive campaigns, major gifts, capital support, annual giving, project and special event programs, planned giving, grants, and alumni giving.
- Ensure all Advancement units and support functions are integrated and coordinated for effectiveness and efficiencies in support of the universityriorities and mission.
- Support and enhance the universityommunity profile and reputation through engagement in the San Diego community.
- Engage university members to support and participate in advancing the fundraising efforts of the university.
- Collaborate with the CFO and Foundation President to support the PLNU Foundation.
- Participate as team member in the Administrative Cabinet to effectively promote and achieve the universityriorities and mission.
- Achieve other duties as assigned by the President.
QUALIFICATIONS - A proven record of leadership and fundraising successes in higher education or appropriate non-profits.
- Experience in comprehensive and capital fundraising campaigns.
- Demonstrated experience in leading complex organizational operations and effectively building and deploying teams.
- Demonstrated Christian practice, service, and personal commitment expressed through corporate worship and personal practice and lifestyle. Preference given to candidates in the Nazarene or Wesleyan faith tradition.
- Post-baccalaureate degree.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in higher education or nonprofit fundraising and a minimum of 5 years of senior level administrative experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively to achieve fundraising priorities and the universityroad mission and purpose in team contexts.
- Skills in planning, strategy development, and implementation of advancement priorities through an effective, accountable organization.
- A demonstrated record of results-oriented action and leadership.
- Knowledge of best practices in advancement and the ability to adapt and apply innovative approaches to the universityevelopment and institutional goals through fundraising practices and systems.
- Demonstrated ability to assess fundraising performance and implement strategies for improvement.
- Demonstrated success in major donor solicitation and fundraising.
- Ability to coordinate fundraising roles and support the President in fundraising activities.
- Experience with marketing and alumni relations.
- Experience in annual and project fundraising appeals.
- Experience in community involvement and institutional representation on community boards and organizations.
- Experience and skills in managing a multi-unit budget and effectively managing financial resources.
- Knowledge of the legal requirements and best practices of fundraising stewardship with donors.
- Knowledge of investments, endowments, and foundations in the promotion of the long-term financial support of the university.
- Knowledge of donor databases with particular preference to Raiserdge.
- Excellent communication skills in oral and written contexts and demonstrated success in interpersonal-relational abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams and build advocacy to support organizational priorities and mission above unit goals.
- Ability to travel as necessary, domestically and occasionally internationally, for the position and be available to attend special events on weekends and evenings as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, develop, and strengthen staff in the fulfillment of their responsibilities.
- Demonstrated self-starting ability that initiates personal and institutional strategies to achieve university and unit priorities.
- Ability to effectively communicate and embody the educational and Christian mission of the university with donors, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Vision to read documents, email and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day.
