About International Studios
International Studios delivers award-winning international television to millions across the globe. Based in London, NBCUniversal International Studios' in-house production labels include: Carnival Films, Monkey Kingdom and Australian-based Matchbox Pictures.
Additionally, NBCUniversal International Studios operates a joint production venture with Working Title Television and Heyday Television, owns an equity stake in LARK Productions in Canada (Motive) and has a first look deal with Hardy Son & Baker and 87 Films. It also operates a prolific global formats business, which licenses and produces content in over 70 territories worldwide.
Role Purpose This role will handle day to day legal affairs for all of International Studio's US television development and production (including providing legal affairs support for Working Title Television (US) and Heydey Television (US)) the international production businesses in their US legal concerns as well as supporting NBCU's format licensing arrangements. The role reports to International Studios' Senior Legal and Commercial Officer presently based in London.
The primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Acting as the principal legal affairs contact on all day-to-day issues that arise in International Studios US scripted and non-scripted television development and production activities including acting as the production lawyer as necessary on US productions
- Working closely with International Studio's US business affairs executives in negotiating and drafting development and commissioning agreements with broadcasters, platforms and other financiers as well as co-production and production services agreements
- Providing effective support to International Studio's US business affairs executives in drafting and negotiating talent agreements as are customary in the US television industry including writers agreements, literary option purchase agreements, if/come and producer agreements
- Acting as an effective liaison between International Studio's US business affairs executives and the NBCU and external legal communities
- Building strong relationships with NBCU's sister studios and distribution businesses in particular the legal affairs teams at Universal Television and Universal Cable Productions
- Analyzing and advising on scripted talent agreements in respect of international format licensing opportunities for existing NBCU programs
- Providing proactive, timely and thoughtful advice on underlying rights clearance, chain of title, copyright and other intellectual property matters
- Liaising with and building up strong working relationship with the NBCUniversal rights team to provide thoughtful, constructive and timely advice to the International Studios business units with rights availability enquiries
- Performing such other legal affairs-related tasks as needed and assigned by the Senior Legal and Commercial Officer

- Minimum 8+ years of experience working in transactional entertainment law with a strong preference for experience in scripted and non-scripted television production
- Juris Doctor (JD) required and active membership in the California State Bar preferred
