In this role, the Vice President of Engineering will provide leadership and oversight to the design and engineering for multiple heavy industrial products within a publicly-traded manufacturing company focused in the Rail industry. The Vice President of Engineering will direct strategic product planning, design, development and engineering for the production of high-quality industrial products. This leader must execute product design to meet company objectives, partner with management and develop controls to ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards. Additionally, this leader will inspire an engineering department while possessing the ability to have a strong technical vision.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: - Strategically lead the engineering organization in bringing innovative products, including the application of advanced materials and innovative manufacturing process, to the Rail industry
- Frequent interaction with industry and regulatory leaders
- Work closely with Commercial sales team to support the value proposition needed to meet our customer needs
- Manages engineering budget
- Manages product design from design to execution
- Builds, develops and manages an engineering team capable of carrying out needed engineering initiatives
- Identify, select and manage outsourced partners to execute strategic plans to develop new and innovative products
- Support key root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventative actions
- Providing guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members
- Performing strategic planning for all product development efforts, including the analysis, testing and production releases
- Partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to drive the execution of the product roadmap to support existing and prospective customers
- Develops and directs procedures and methods to ensure quality standards are met and maintained
Education - Bachelor's degree in Engineering, plus a minimum of 15 years applicable work experience leading an engineering function
- Professional Engineer Registration highly preferred
Knowledge & Experience - Engineering experience in the transportation industry a plus. Rail industry highly desired
- Proven track record of designing and implementing complex engineering and automation solutions
- Experience in strategic planning and execution of engineering within heavy industrial manufacturing
- Technical ability to trade-off multiple, complex, high interdependent variables and make timely decisions
- Considered a subject matter expert in the application of standard materials and components
- Knowledge and experience in applying Lean fundamentals to engineering as it relates to manufacturing
- Considerable business acumen including business processes, management, budgeting and operations
- Proven experience in innovation, product development and project management principles
- In-depth knowledge of applicable industry-related regulations
- Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously
- Bilingual (Spanish) skills are preferred
