Reports to: CEO
Classification: Exempt
Job Function: The Vice President of Operations is part of Bison s Leadership Team and is responsible for leading Bison s manufacturing and supply chain organizations to ensure we have a safe, efficient, World Class facility. This role must also work closely with Engineering as well as Bison s Go To Market organization to help ensure new products are introduced to the factory effectively, and that customer requirements for Price, Quality & Delivery can be met.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Safety: Ensure Bison s factory is operating in accordance with required health and safety standards. Work with the Safety Department to identify and correct areas of weakness, and drive year-over-year improvements in safety performance.
Operations: Direct all manufacturing and manufacturing support functions including factory management, scheduling, supply chain, facilities management and maintenance. Drive year-over-year improvements in quality performance, cost management and labor efficiency. Benchmark other like facilities to help ensure Bison s manufacturing methods stay current. Using Lean methodology, drive World Class expectations and results.
Budgeting: Responsible for recommending Annual Operations budgets for material, labor and factory overhead to support sales growth objectives, and for managing performance within budget guidelines. Responsible for recommending and managing capital expenditures as it relates to manufacturing and the facilities.
Leadership: Provide constant guidance and leadership to the organization. Help develop subordinates and others in the organization in need of coaching. Actively participate in succession planning and personnel development.
Business Strategy: Be a key contributor in helping define and implement Bison s short- and long- term strategies. Be an advocate throughout the organization in terms of communicating strategic goals, helping to ensure that the message is properly communicated and understood across the organization. Ensure that data based decision methodology is being used to drive decisions.
Organization: Ensure that Bison has the proper structure in place with the right people in the right positions, keep the team motivated and ensure that the Operations team has the skills necessary to be successful. Shape, motivate, and develop the most effective staff to consistently meet the company s strategic goals in the power transmission, industrial automation and motion control markets. Ensure a solid succession plan is developed and implemented.
Communication: Ensure proper levels of communication across the organization from sharing company results and strategic direction within own department to communication to the President/ CEO, and/ or others on the Leadership Team, when there are issues needing to be addressed that impact performance results.
Customer Engagement: Be willing and able to engage at all levels with Bison s customers. This could include hosting customer visits and/ or visiting customers both pro-actively and on an as-needed basis.
Intangibles: Ability to see and plan for long-term success, have patience to understand that it takes time for work to get done, and be demanding enough to ensure that it does. Be a leader in terms of employee engagement and coaching to drive performance.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises Manufacturing Manager, Facilities & Maintenance Manager and Director of Materials. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: - Bachelor s Degree or equivalent
- 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing leadership position within the Industrial B2B space
- Experience in a high-mix, low-volume environment is a plus, as is experience in a privately owned company
- International experience is an advantage
Travel Requirements: Must be able and willing to travel as needed to accomplish the duties and responsibilities. Expected travel approximately 10% of time.
