What's the role?
Newly created role of Vice President, Budget and Expense Management reporting to the head of Financial Management for Northwestern Mutual. This role is based in Milwaukee, WI and will oversee a broader team of approximately 30 employees.
In this role, you will: - Evolve Budget & Expense Management by instituting dynamic expense management policies and practices that support the enterpriseransformational change within an agile technology delivery environment.
- Optimize budgeting/expense management technology to improve processes and drive enterprise efficiencies.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure operating and capital spend is aligned with revenue as the Company invests to advance enterprise strategic priorities
- Drive consistency and transparency in expense management practices across the enterprise to optimally support business decisions.
- Lead enterprise expense management efforts to eliminate lower value spend and optimize NM's cost structure. Challenge all business processes to work towards operational efficiencies and embed a strong expense management mindset throughout the organization to ensure sustainable cost savings.
- Communicate openly and directly with senior leadership to resolve conflicts and embed financial advice into relevant operating and business decisions while advancing NM's strategic priorities.
- Lead the Budget & Expense Management division to ensure a high performing change agile team. Integrate finance professionals embedded in other departments into the division to drive cohesive, consistent and efficient finance support to the enterprise.
- Support the department head in leadership of the Financial Management department
- Develop presentations to the Executive Leadership Team, the Board, and other corporate-level financial and operational committees that clearly communicate complex financial information.
Bring Your Best! What this role needs:
- You have a bacheloregree at minimum, preferably in Accounting, Finance or relevant discipline.
- You also have an MBA or advanced degree/certification.
- You have 15 years or more of relevant work experience in positions with increasing leadership responsibilities.
- You have significant experience leading large corporate budgets and a track record of exceeding significant expense savings targets.
- You have exceptional organizational-agility, communication and negotiation skills in order to maintain relations with all levels of management while leading others through change.
- You have confirmed financial, budgeting, analytical, problem solving, critical thinking, and consultative skills.
- You have successfully led teams prior and have the ability to effectively lead people, form teams and transform work processes.
