Functions/Duties of Position
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) provides executive leadership for all operational areas providing strategic, analytical and operational leadership of OHSU Hospital. This is a key leader of the organization in translating executive strategy into operational road maps and processes designed to maximize quality and efficiency of services across the Healthcare mission. This leader is expected to:
- Design and implement business strategies, plans and procedures
- Set comprehensive goals for performance and growth
- Establish policies that promote company culture and vision and ensures effective execution
- Lead employees to encourage maximum performance and dedication
- Participate in expansion activities (investments, acquisitions, corporate alliances etc.)
- Appraises and evaluates the overall operations regularly and systematically and reports these results to the CEO
- Direct the preparation of short-term and long-range plans and budgets based on corporate goals and growth objectives
- Oversee Senior Executives, Directors, and manages direct department activities that implement the organization's policies
- Direct hospital operations to achieve budgeted profit results and other financial benchmarking standards
- Review analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine department or division progress toward stated goals and objectives
- Ensures that all hospital activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and laws governing business operations
- Leads and assists in ensuring the health system meets and maintains Joint Commission, state license and other accreditation requirements
Job Requirements REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Master's degree in business, healthcare administration, or related degree
- 7 to 10 years' experience in senior leadership roles
- Leadership experience:
- Acute care hospital operations
- Multi-site acute care hospital
- Academic health system
- Understanding of business functions such as Finance, HR, Marketing, etc.
- Skilled in organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development and strategic planning
- Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
- Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities
- Excellent people skills with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team
- Aptitude in decision making and problem solving
- Normal office environment. Occasional travel by car within city and state. Occasional travel by air
- Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility and commitment to the organization's mission
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
