Job Purpose JOB PURPOSE: Provide leadership for the Ethics and Compliance Program in the assigned region. This includes leading and supporting other Caterpillar leaders in the assigned region in fostering and enhancing a culture, grounded in Caterpillar's Worldwide Code of Conduct - Our Values in Action. Responsibilities include providing trusted advice on ethical issues, communicating Caterpillar's values, ethical principles, and associated behaviors, and leading investigations on violations and suspected violations. Provide strong independent voice supporting decisions that align with Our Values in Action.
Key Job Elements
Provide leadership for the Ethics and Compliance Program in the region by performing the following responsibilities: develop, interface with and support Ethics and Compliance (mp;Champions throughout the region. The E&C Champions will ensure effective implementation of all E&C initiatives, including but not limited to training and communications, at their respective locations. Coordinate the annual E&C risk assessment, prioritization and resultant action plans for the region. Organize, contribute to and develop the E & C Team, which will continue to develop the E&C strategy for the region, identify key compliance risks and develop responsive action plans to address the prioritized risks. The position will organize and report progress semi-annually to the Leadership Compliance Council, composed of regional top leadership, who will review and approve the regional E&C strategy, prioritized risks and resultant action plans. Act as the primary representative of the OBP in the region with the responsibility to provide reports to the OBP as appropriate.
Provide guidance on the interpretation of Our Values in Action - Caterpillar's Worldwide Code of Conduct (code) and corporate policies. Provide leadership and support to other Caterpillar leaders in fostering and enhancing
a values-based culture in the region. Responsibilities include providing trusted advice on ethical issues, communicating Caterpillar's values, ethical principles and associated behaviors.
Identify learning needs in the area of ethics and compliance in the region, develop learning programs and deliver learning to the target groups. Provide Our Values in Action training to new hired employees and employees from newly acquired companies. Help to establish Our Values in Action communication and reporting channels in the newly acquired companies.
Lead investigations on violations and suspected violations of Code and corporate policies. The position will work with subject matter expert to review and resolve reported potential violations of code and corporate policies. The position must be able to lead and facilitate investigations, analyze the facts, draw conclusions based on the facts, and communicate those conclusions to the appropriate leaders in a complete, timely and understandable manner and stand firmly in favor of decisions that align with Our Values in Action.
This position acts as an advisor or consultant to senior management. The incumbent may serve as a company-wide resource on a highly specialized area or serve multiple units in a broader functional area and assist senior management in interpreting and using information provided.
Typical internal customers include various contacts in a single geographic area. The position's primary customers are internal. The position often confronts complex issues or problems, which require careful analysis and diagnosis. Problems are often unique and solutions can require original approaches. The incumbent may modify existing approaches or develop new solutions. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results. Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, etc. The position serves as an advisor/consultant to assist groups with quality improvements in the measure(s) stated.
The position travels extensively; at least one full week each month.
Education / Training
Bachelors degree in a related field. Masters degree preferred.
Qualifications and Experience The position requires familiarity with company policies and procedures. A strong department background is also required. The position typically requires a professional degree or certification requiring several years of full-time study after a college degree. In addition, nine to twelve years of progressively responsible job-related experience are typically required. Good human relations skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the department.
