About Strategic Communications

A Day in the Life as a Directorclass="new_p"> As a Director in our Healthcare & Life Sciences sector, you will take an active role in supporting the day-to-day management of client accounts, with a focus on the Healthcare & Life Sciences industry. As a successful Director, you will be responsible for managing both up and down within account teams to appropriately service corporate client communications and investor relations programs. You will interact with and provide communications support for client companies; develop and execute communications strategies to deliver results and meet client expectations; draft documents for client use (including communications plans, strategy memos, press releases, interview preparation memos, etc.); provide perspective to clients on internal, peer, and market developments as such pertains to the media and marketplace; regularly plan for media interaction and converse with the media and investment communities. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Client Service
- Assess and develop positioning for clients; engage in capital markets communications and/or reputation work
- Develop and refine client strategies and appropriate messages
- Monitor, research and report on broad financial markets, industry trends, peer companies, client stock movements and media coverage
- Communicate investor relations recommendations to clients to inform strategy and maximize value
- Identify strategic opportunities to further the clients' reputation
- Be prepared to mitigate risk and take advantage of opportunities based on regulatory or business developments
Client Relationships/Account Management
- Assist account leads with managing programs on a day-to-day basis
- Counsel clients about industry, company, and market developments as it pertains to corporate communications and investor relations
- Take a proactive approach and anticipate client needs
- Demonstrate insight into client needs and concerns
- Develop strong relationships with clients and become a trusted advisor to clients
- Establish and manage to client expectations
Strategy & Planning
- Assist senior team members in creatively preparing and executing communications strategies
- Identify emerging opportunities to add more value for the client
- Identify new business opportunities
- Anticipate potentially difficult situations and be able to evaluate strategies and alternatives with senior management
Team Contributions & Characteristics
- Demonstrate a willingness to take responsibility for outcomes and to assist others when needed
- Effectively manage competing demands for time
- Work with junior staff as a leader and demonstrate mentoring ability
- Actively support new business development efforts
What Are We Looking For? - Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, finance, economics or English
- Minimum 5-7 years' full-time experience in the life sciences consulting or investor relations/communications industries
- Experience in the Healthcare & Life Sciences sector is essential
Basic Qualifications - Strong time and priority management skills and an ability to juggle multiple client accounts
- Ability to communicate information effectively and accurately, verbally or in writing
- A high level of integrity and sensitivity to confidential information
- Understanding of the corporate earnings process for public companies
- Understanding of the life sciences sector
- A strong work ethic and an ability to be a self-starter
- Computer proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- Experience working in various social media channels
