Job Description: SUMMARY: The Director of the Mouse Transgenic and Gene Targeting Facility at Brown is responsible for the production and delivery of CRISPR-Cas9 generated transgenic mice based on individual project needs as well as the management of the research assistant and day-to-day operations of the core facility whose main focus is providing gene-targeted and transgenic mice. Working directly with the scientific community, faculty on the main campus and the jewelry district and with users at the Brown-affiliated hospitals, the Director generates unique transgenic and gene targeted animals for use, based on specific needs of individual projects. This work primarily requires performing CRISPR-Cas9 targeted gene disruptions and tagged alleles in mouse embryos and ES cells. The facility also provides cryogenic storage services and performs mouse re-derivations and cryo-preservations for the Brown research enterprise. Additional responsibilities include developing and improving techniques and procedures and providing consultative services to the community in the design and implementation of transgenic animals. In addition, the Director will organize the financial records and budgets for the facility, supervise Research Assistants and technical staff, maintain records, and compile, interpret and analyze data. The Director provides overall oversight and management for the facility, its equipment, inventories, and supplies. Working strategically and collaboratively with department leadership, animal care and stakeholders, the Director promotes usage and effectively markets the services provided ensuring continuing growth and usage of the facility.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Bacheloregree in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or related field (PhD or Masteregree preferred) with 5-10 yearsperience in mouse genetics including solid and demonstrated skills in all aspects of transgenic and gene targeted mouse production and specific experience generating gene targeted mice in a BL/6 background (or any equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience with CRISPR-Cas9 technology preferred.
- Excellent organizational, record keeping and report preparation skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills; supervisory experience
- Solid computer skills (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Explorer)
- Ability to analyze data
- Experience developing/ and managing a budget as well as projections
- Good marketing and business skills
- Criminal background and education check required
