Position Overview The Director of Data Services at KinderCare is someone with a vision for transforming the availability, quality and effectiveness of data assets. They assume a strategic role in planning and implementation of the enterprise data warehouse in cloud and on premise.
The Director of Data Services partners with leaders across KinderCare to deliver innovative data solutions for the organization. The incumbent assumes a forward-facing role to provide executive leadership, vision, and direction in all aspects of corporate data management. The Director of Data Services and Business Intelligence focuses on strategic development and operations of the data services, warehousing, and business intelligence solutions. This includes both long-term and short-term planning, staff management, optimizing processes and technology, and ensuring an appropriate BI/data warehouse platform is delivered in a highly distributed, complex business environment.
The Director will work closely with business executives, IT architects, and IT leadership in order to understand business requirements, recommend and deliver analytics solutions to deliver business insights and value.

- Work with business leadership, IT architectural and supporting teams to understand business requirements, develop an enterprise strategy for Business Intelligence processes, methodologies and platforms targeted for KinderCare environment. This strategy includes full data lifecycle management from data inception to data archival spanning the transactional systems to the data warehouse. Develop roadmap to implement this strategy.
- Work with business and IT leadership to ensure development of the enterprise data repositories and data stores for lines of business and applications align with the business objectives and strategies.
- Direct planning and implementation of enterprise data management programs including Master Data Management, data stewardship, data standardization and the development and maintenance of application data architecture, data models and databases.
- Oversee the management of the portfolio of data services along with the projects and teams that support these functions (Data architects, data modelers, development DBAs and ETL developers). Leverage both fulltime resources and outsource partners where applicable.
- Manage the service & solution delivery of the company's enterprise visualization products, including reports and Business Intelligence (BI) applications. This includes engaging, evaluating, managing software suppliers and support developers (internal and contract), including but not limited to: defining and managing projects, defining SLA's for prompt rectification of problems and/or operational emergencies.
- Manage the teams responsible for software development and maintenance of data related services, including data access routines where applicable, which support the development of enterprise applications.
- Oversee management of portfolio of enterprise data projects using defined project management methodologies, effective communication with project champions/sponsors, and management of resources and other project constraints. Effectively prioritize and maintain control over project management activities.
- Develop and establish appropriate operating policies, technology standards and procedures to ensure security policy compliance of enterprise data.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Exceptional understanding of advanced database features and integration capabilities. Experience with Kimball models, overseeing Agile and Waterfall development, application of Lean principles. Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities as well as exceptional customer service orientation.
- Proven IS experience in managing technical implementations for Master Data Management, data warehouse, data quality and data governance processes, platforms and systems;
- Excellent understanding of project and portfolio management principles and demonstrated ability to apply it in solving organizational problems in collaboration with operational leadership.
- Ensures Data Governance principles incorporated into all aspects of the organization's data services and solutions through affordable and efficient processes. Ensures that all committed service levels are met and corrective actions implemented when they are not.
- Familiar with the design and operation of large relational database management systems; underlying server and storage hardware architectures; statistical data analysis; software programming as it relates to data access and manipulation; role based access control; database performance strategies; system performance monitoring, metrics, and trend analysis; metadata management.
- Proven track record of delivering enterprise strategic projects, management of capital and operating budgets, allocating resources in alignment to business needs.
- Strong software engineering experience including: Service Oriented Architecture, n-tier application design, RDBMS implementation, and responsive design and mobile platform development.
- Experience with hybrid onshore/offshore resourcing models, vendor managed services and hosted solutions.
- Experience reviewing, approving and negotiating major contracts for supporting data related information technology services.
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Effectively works in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Demonstrable experience mentoring and growing managers and staff.
- Demonstrable knowledge of ITSM concepts and processes (ITIL certification preferred).
- Ability to effectively work and communicate with people with a wide range of skills, experience, cultures and capabilities including business leaders, peers, vendors, and staff members.
- Ability to present ideas in concise, business-friendly and user-friendly language.

Education/Experience - Bachelor degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or similar technical discipline
- Advanced degree preferred
- 10 years of large enterprise experience developing, deploying and maintaining data portfolios for technology solutions using the Microsoft stack employing SQL Server.
- 5 years of experience implementing Oracle RDBMs solutions leveraging.
- 10 years of progressive experience managing the implementation and operations of enterprise applications.
- 10 years of experience designing, modeling, developing and implementing enterprise level data stores in both applications and data mart/ data warehouse configurations.
- 5 years of experience defining and managing data visualizations using tools and industry standard practices.
- Experience in large, distributed business environments preferred
