The Director, Environmental Compliance and Technical Services position reports to the Executive Director leading the Safety & Environmental Center of Excellence (CoE) Global Safety & Environment (GSE) function.
The position is responsible for worldwide environmental compliance programs and technical support to sites; developing strategies to achieve compliance goals in alignment with GSE and Merck/MSD business goals and values. Manage a team of subject matter experts who provide the business with environmental regulatory surveillance, advocacy support, technical expertise in air, water, waste and dangerous goods compliance programs, permit application/negotiation, program and tools development, risk mitigation efforts, and technical support and training. Assures adherence to financial budget targets and project timelines.
Qualifications Education Minimum Requirement:
- Bacheloregree in Science or Engineering
Required Experience and Skills:
- Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience managing environmental compliance programs at manufacturing facilities
- Strong technical and project management skills, with ethics as a core value
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information and communicate effectively to senior management
- Demonstrated ability to successfully negotiate with regulatory agencies and senior operations leaders
- Robust skills interpreting and applying environmental regulatory frameworks.
- Strong leadership, change execution, and financial management skills. Readily and actively contributes to the success of the team.
- Ability to simultaneously balance and adjust to multiple changing priorities and make decisions with speed and accuracy.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Experience leading a site environmental program in pharmaceutical or chemical industry
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; ability to work transparently and with a sense of urgency across various businesses and functions
- Ability to drive customer service/value and build strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders
- Relevant professional certification(s) e.g. PE, Lean/Six Sigma experience and Change Execution Management
