We are seeking a director for our newly formed Business Communications Division who will report to the Vice President and Chief Communications Officer (CCO). This position is responsible for leading, planning, and directing internal, external and executive communications functions for our space and defense business units.
Performs short and long range planning and implements approved plans. Informs and advises senior management on critical communications matters. Helps prepare the organizationudget and participates in the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies.
Sets the standard of ethical conduct, practices, and personal integrity to ensure the ability to attract and retain customers in a highly competitive environment.
This position will be based in our Rosslyn, VA office.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
50% - Directs the daily operations of the communications specialists in the companypace and defense business units, as well as have responsibility for the tradeshow, social media and speechwriting team. Works with leadership to establish overall department goals and objectives, provides operational direction and ensures synchronization of communication efforts in support of the companytrategic plan and business objectives. Responsible for planning, coordinating aligning, and implementing all communication and advertisement efforts across program and business functions and aligning those efforts with tradeshow participation and executive communications.
15% - Develops relationships with media as well as with government and corporate customers, outside suppliers, contractors, and consultants to enable responsive, precise and world class communications.
20% Travel to Los Angeles and other sites as needed to meet regularly with staff and senior management to build relationships and ensure accomplishment of the companyommunication goals and objectives for our Defense and Space business unit.
15% - Leadership responsibilities such as daily supervision, training and personnel management, team building, performance evaluations, salary planning, and goal setting. Directs and manages budgets, resources, project scheduling, metrics reporting and other duties as required.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field and 15 years of progressive work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Exceptional leadership and management skills, and the ability to manage an experienced workforce of senior communicators disbursed across the country.
- Extensive media relations and internal communications experience.
- Team player with the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form with all levels of management and individual contributors.
- Demonstrated history of strong customer focus and attention to detail.
- Ability and willingness to travel to other sites as needed.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. citizenship).
Desired Qualifications: - Experience working with an Aerospace and Defense environment
- Knowledge of emerging communication trends, tools and techniques.
- Knowledge in the use of research and results-based metrics to help determine effectiveness in reaching goals and assess return on investment.
Ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms to staff, management and customers.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Requires the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
