Merck seeks to recruit an Executive Director to serve as Client Services Leader for the GHH Global Marketing & Medical Affairs organizations to report to the Vice President of Global Human Health (GHH) IT. The new executive will serve as the single point of accountability to deliver technology solutions and services to meet the strategic, transformational and operational goals of the business. This leader will work with the business unit senior leadership to influence business strategy and drive the execution of a digital and enterprise IT strategy, which both supports business transformation objectives while continuing to simplify and integrate the IT footprint. This executive director will also develop and manage the IT investment portfolio tied to business realization goals and define service levels for operational systems. This leader will be responsible for leading all efforts relating to: strategic IT planning; IT budget and spending for the GHH IT Marketing & Medical Affairs resources & portfolio of the GHH IT organization. He/she will have responsibility for leading a team of technology professionals, with an appropriate operating budget linked to GHHtrategic imperatives ($20M to $50M).
This leader will be the senior client services director liasing with senior vice presidents in GHH, as well as executives within Merck IT, and expected to jointly develop strategies as they relate to GHH's Marketing & Medical Affairs portfolio. To be effective in this role, he/she must partner with executive, functional and operational leaders to understand both Global Marketing & Medical Affairs priorities in the context of global business drivers, and then integrate these requirements into the global strategy as it is developed. This leader should have the business acumen and communication skills to shape, articulate and sell a cohesive business strategy.
In addition, he/she will implement and optimize the appropriate IT solutions for the Global Marketing & Medical Affairs organizations while ensuring not only alignment with the global footprint and platforms, but extensibility and scalability of these solutions. This executive director will act as a trusted advisor to local line management regarding technology enablement and innovation opportunities and will lead them in optimizing IT utilization and identifying and implementing appropriate new technologies.
Key responsibilities include: Influence senior business leaders in the development of business strategic plans, as well as development of a correlating & integrating IT strategy and multi-year investment portfolio with associated business cases with a clearly defined ROI.
As the strategic and trusted partner with the GHH Global Marketing & Medical Affairs executive management, plan and execute on the GHH transformation strategy including bringing deep understanding of the digital imperatives and associated global capabilities required. Partner with the IT Platform and IT Digital Transformation teams to plan and deliver on prioritized roadmap capabilities.
Develop and manage a technology roadmap with the associated platform owners, instantiate an investment project portfolio to enable the business strategy and ensuring prioritization, clarity and alignment of the IT portfolio with strategic imperatives and business outcomes. Ensure IT is delivering new projects on-time, within budget and with the associated quality standards and realization measures.
Ensure alignment of IT execution operations and business leadership in defining strategies and processes that contribute to GHHtrategic plan and marketplace competitive advantage.
Proactively identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness of GHHusiness processes and IT service delivery. Continuously identify and evaluate innovative technology opportunities to improve speed to market and adaptability to support new products and services.
Ensure appropriate service level agreements are in place for operational systems.
Promote an engaged internal partnership with executive, functional and operating business partners, and lead ITontribution to process innovation and business success.
Ensure an optimal organizational design, and continually lead the development and elevation of direct leaders and staff through proactive coaching, mentoring, professional development and feedback.
Travel will be required (~20%).
Qualifications Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Communications, Marketing or a related discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience
Required: The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of success as an information technology leader in the pharmaceutical, consumer goods or related industry with an intense focus on predictive and prescriptive analytics, digital experiences and commercial systems.
This candidate should possess exceptionally well-developed interpersonal skills. Communication skills will be critical to this leaderbility to interact, negotiate and effectively influence the regional and functional leaders. He/she must be able to develop, articulate and build support around a long-term vision, and implement incremental milestones in support of that vision.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated superior management skills, as well as skills that emphasize collaboration in a highly matrixed organization. The ability to manage cross-divisional projects, coordinate projects and services across national boundaries, and build effective cross-functional teams is essential.
Preferred: Problem-solving skills: An executive with the global IT leadership experience to balance the needs of the individual area by implementing solutions align to the broader global organization and enterprise. While accomplishing this, the leader will ensure that the solutions implemented match the strategic plan and standards set by the business and IT, and that the solutions are integrated. He/she understands the individual country regulations and always ensures that the regulations are followed.

He/she will have the ability to influence leaders and drive change in an environment where there is no direct reporting relationship.
This executive will be capable of communicating the vision and principles of the GHH and Merck IT organizations at the most senior levels of the organization in a coherent and clear manner, and will be able to act as a spokesperson for the Vice President of GHH IT.
