Director, Center for Health Policy and Health Services Research (CHPHSR)
The Henry Ford Health System is seeking applicants for the position of Director, Center for Health Policy and Health Services Research. The Director is responsible for leading a research group that currently includes seven doctoral-level investigators and approximately 35 total staff, with an annual budget of approximately $7.2 million.
Henry Ford Health System (HFHS), based in Detroit, Michigan, is one of the nation's largest and oldest integrated health systems. HFHS includes a 1,200-member multispecialty group practice, a 600,000-member health plan, five acute care hospitals, including the flagship teaching hospital Henry Ford Hospital, an inpatient psychiatric facility, home health, retail pharmacy and eye care services, and a large kidney dialysis program. Most of the clinical sites and programs use the Epic EMR system; patients in the System have a single medical record and single medical record number.
CHPHSR has been in existence since 1980, originally under the name Center for Applied Research. There has been a strong commitment to innovation and health services research linked to that innovation; for example, Henry Ford Hospital and the Center were the site of the first prospective randomized trial of a hospitalist model of inpatient care. Investigators in CHPHSR work collaboratively with clinicians and clinician-investigators in many departments of the Henry Ford Medical Group; nearly all studies in CHPHSR involve the patients, data resources, and organizational elements of HFHS as the context for research.
CHPHSR investigators also work in collaboration with peers in similar organizations and centers across the country. HFHS is one of the founding members of, and active participants in, the Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN), and special collaborations linked to HCSRN like the Mental Health Research Network and the Cancer Research Network. HFHS is one of the major recruitment sites for the NIH Precision Medicine Initiative.
In the domain of Health Policy, CHPHSR staff are responsible for coordinating and supporting HFHS participation in state and federal demonstration projects (e.g., Next Generation ACO, Oncology Care Model) and for reviewing and coordinating comments on federal and state regulations and legislation. CHPHSR staff have been active in national and state policy-setting bodies like the National Quality Forum and the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC).
The successful candidate will be expected to have an active program of his/her own research, to lead and work of other investigators and staff in CHPHSR, to support and encourage health services research and policy-relevant research in other parts of the Henry Ford Health System, and to develop collaborations with one or more of the clinical departments of the Henry Ford Medical Group. Candidates will be expected to have a doctoral degree in a discipline relevant to health services research, a successful track record of research grant funding and publication, and experience commensurate with leading a group of active and successful researchers.
