The Director, Social Media Monitoring is responsible for managing a group that monitors MLS, SUM and soccer news on social media channels, in addition to traditional media outlets. This position monitors key topics or opportunities as they arise, and formulates responses and an action plan as needed. The Director, Social Media Monitoring will be responsible for building a department that will also include two consultants who will monitor traditional media and social media channels.
Responsibilities Monitor MLS, SUM and soccer news in traditional media outlets and on social media channels
Communicates key issues to senior management and other stakeholders as issues arise
Formulates responses to key issues, including traditional media outlets and communication received from fans on social media, that can be used by various stakeholders within the organization
Manage and maintain the monitoring and analytics systems to track traditional and social media engagement with important news items.
Create and monitor effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of MLS news/announcements. This includes traditional and social media
Monitor journalist and MLS fan sentiment across social platforms, what conversations are taking place and how can that help better inform key stakeholders at MLS
Produce real-time alerts for EVP of Communications and other key stakeholders when key issues take place.
Produce weekly reports on MLS and SUM news and engagement within traditional and social media. Tools such as Trendkite and Crimson Hexagon are used to produce reports.
Build and foster collaborative relationships with other departments within the organization to stay informed and abreast of new initiatives, program and other organization wide events
Manage hiring and onboarding process by interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees
Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and managing the Performance Management process:
Plan, monitor, and review performance;
Coach and counsel employees;
Develop and implement department procedures and productivity standards and reinforce Company policies
Develop personal growth opportunities for employees
Additional Responsibilities The Director, Media Monitoring may also be asked to assist with the following:
Write speeches, statements, correspondence, and other editorial required by League office executives
Review press releases, statements and other written materials and provide recommendations to enhance content
Provide one-on-one interview preparation for league/club executives and other VIPs as requested

Qualifications - 8-10+ years of experience in public relations\communications, journalism, or marketing
- Bacheloregree in public relations, journalism, marketing communications, sports administration or related field
Required skills Knowledge and passion for Major League Soccer
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced media environment and make quick decisions using sound judgment
Critical thinker with exceptional project management skills and attention to detail, with ability to manage people/projects, delegate responsibility and provide follow-through on multiple projects
Individual must be detail-oriented and a self-starter
Ability to anticipate problems and identify opportunities to build\protect the MLS brand
Ability to think strategically, creatively, and in an effective manner while managing multiple issues and projects
Strong familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Vine, Periscope, tumblr, reddit, Snapchat, and blogs
Knowledge of digital/social media tools including but not limited to Crimson Hexagon, Shareablee, Hootsuite and Nielsen Social
High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
Desired Skills Knowledge of the Spanish and/or French Language (business proficiency)
Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
