Position Description: The Director, Business Development & Strategy works closely with the VP of Global BD&S to achieve Medtronic Diabetes revenue and profitability goals and to maintain and enhance its industry leading position. Responsibilities encompass the full range of strategic and tactical planning as well as business development and M&A. In many instances the Director will participate in the execution of the plans and ensure best practices are leveraged.
Position Responsibilities: - Develop, refine and implement strategic plans across the assigned business unit by collaborating with the Sr Director, Global Strategy and Portfolio Management
- Lead all inorganic strategic development and execution of the Medtronic BU business and initiate M&A transactions, together with members of cross-functional global teams
- Evaluate the attractiveness of new markets for assigned business unit and develop market entry strategies
- Analyze economic, market and competitive data and communicate key information and implications to the senior leadership team
- Help identify, analyze and present new businesses opportunities in accordance with the group's long-range strategy
- Conducts ad-hoc analysis and decision support. Disseminates information and communicates ideas on behalf of the Business Development function both internally and externally.
- Manage and create business communications and presentations for senior management that fuse financial, performance, strategic and competitive information cohesively
- Provide support and operational analysis across Medtronic Diabetes NDT business segment and regions
- Assist in implementation of approved new business models
- Communicate all inorganic activity, including the tracking, documentation and status reporting along the business development pipeline
- Assume ownership of the business model including identification of synergies, forecasts and creative deal structures
- Prepare or manage the preparation of all financial, marketing, operational and strategic analyses for all inorganic activity.
Basic Qualifications: - BA or BS degree and 10 years of experience in business development, join ventures, financial analysis, mergers and acquisitions, and strategy development OR Advanced degree and 8 years relevant experience
- Experience presenting to Board of Directors or C-suite executives utilizing strong presentation and facilitation skills
- Experience in a large global corporate (even matrixed) environment
- Strong operational and commercial experience is required, along with a track record of successfully negotiating material R&D, distribution, products and technology platform commercial deals, including out-licensing, in-licensing, co-promotion and/or acquisition deals.
Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required:
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with strong attention to detail required
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills
- High level of proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel
- Strong interpersonal capabilities and project management skills
- Medical device experience
- Seasoned professional with a strong understanding of the medical device industry device development and commercialization process.
- Expertise in advanced program and portfolio analysis, financial analysis and valuation, project management
- Progressively increased responsible program and portfolio management experience
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in the medical device industry
