The Regional HIM Director is responsible for providing operational subject-matter expertise, leadership, oversight, direction and support for the HIM Operations at more than one health ministry. HIM Operations include: DNFB leadership, administrative support, Medical Staff and clinical hospital committee partnerships, JCAHO & Licensure Compliance, EMR integrity, legal medical record compliance and retention, HIPAA Privacy support, ROI oversight and management, CDI integration, and all other HIM operational functions including, but not limited to, scanning, documentation deficiency management, release of information, EMPI oversight, and registry maintenance. Directs, manages and implements best practices and standardizes work processes to ensure efficient, timely and compliant hospital records across multiple hospital facilities.
Your day to day role will include:
- Provides strategic thought leadership, project management and analytical support to meet performance and quality metrics/targets.
- Holds HIM Leaders/Managers within the region accountable to ensure DNFB targets are met with minimal volatility and within specific cost parameters.
- Holds HIM Leaders/Managers within the region accountable for effective, efficient and compliant HIM operations.
- Leads the deployment of R1 best practice standards of work. Achieving 95%+ standardization for HIM operations processes, workflow philosophies, metrics and technology.
- Maintains the regional HIM department budget.
- Holds all HIM-related 3rd Party / Vendor partners accountable for contract deliverables, compliant practices, and staff operations. Provides recommendations/feedback to executives on
- Vendor performance outcomes and trending and adherence to hospital requirements and standards.
- Ensures timely resolution of all audit and quality-related HIM Operational issues and HIM Operational documentation compliance items.
- Communicates performance results and manages day-to-day customer relationship with key executive stakeholders.
- Develops trusted partnerships with key executives to achieve targets and identify new opportunities.
- Interacts with hospital and Medical Staff executives on a regular basis to educate them on current challenges, new ideas and innovations to improve results.
- Mentors direct reports and coaches staff in the attainment of Revenue Cycle excellence.
- Works collaboratively with the R1 Site Leadership to achieve R1 goals and metrics.
- Manages 2 to 3 hospital systems/ministries within a region, with multiple HIM Directors and/or Managers in place at each site.
- Responsible for achieving DNFB targets for the hospitals within the region.
- Responsible for achieving HIM-driven denial targets for the hospitals within the region.
You Have:
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management and RHIA credential is required.
- At least 7 years of HIM Leadership experience, including management in a multi-facility health system.
- Prefer HIM consulting experience.
- Excellent leadership and change management skills; experience leading through authority and persuasion.
- Analytical skills with the ability to look at operational data trends and design workflows to address performance objectives.
- Advanced problem-solving skills with ability to manage cross-functional resolutions against a deadline.
- Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to effectively communicate and lead a broad range of audiences.
- Ability to quickly establish strong working relationships with executive and Medical Staff leadership; strong ability to influence decisions.
- Experience with electronic health records technology and scanning systems.
- Purposeful and result-oriented. Demonstrated ability to lead projects that result in a significant impact.
- Demonstrated strategic and systems thinking and planning abilities. Creative; thinks outside the box with an orientation towards solutions through collaboration.
