Job Overview

The NTS Safety Manager (NTSSM) will be responsible for multiple facilities in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.

• Must have experience working within the field of "fleet" safety and operational safety.
• Primary responsibilities include training, job observations, accident prevention, audit, and compliance with OSHA regulatory requirements and company safety policies.
• Ability to produce results through effective safety and health program and process development and implementation.
• Drive safe performance practices while working with CDL Drivers, Managers, Supervisors and Maintenance Personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

• Develops, implements, and coordinates safety program for the market area, and monitors work processes, procedures and expenses to drive team performance toward departmental and organizational goals.
• Serves as the staff safety manager for business unit.\
• Develops business unit operational safety plan.
• Provides technical assistance to district managers to develop safety action
• plans.
• Monitors compliance of districts to DOT and OSHA regulations.
• Serves as a liaison with Human Resources to develop and implement technical training needs of the business unit.
• Provides oversight for all operational safety training, and trains and mentors field operational management in safety process.
• Reviews significant accidents/incidents including field investigations.
• Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
• Participates in corporate safety committees.

Knowledge

• Must have comprehensive working knowledge and understanding of rules, regulations and standards set by OSHA, Federal and State DOT including DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations

• Must have working knowledge of health and safety regulations, behavior based safety and able to employ management by metrics to achieve continual improvement.

• Must be an effective trainer, communicator and coach for employees, supervisors and management personnel.

• Computer - Demonstrates a working knowledge of MS Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Education and Experience

Required: Bachelor's Degree (accredited), or 4 years managerial experience in Operations an/or Safety, and 7-10 years of previous experience.

Preferred: Master's Degree, or equivalent experience, and 7-10 years management experience Operations and/or Safety.

Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

• Strong knowledge in Safety Rules & Regulations including DOT and OSHA
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Public speaking experience
