Area of Specialization: Broadcast and multimedia journalism.
Primary duties include teaching Introduction to Radio Broadcasting and Cal Poly Radio Laboratory, which support the forward-looking FCC-licensed, student-run radio station, KCPR-FM. Teaching assignment also includes advising the station in all its platforms and operations. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to teach courses in broadcast and multimedia journalism, such as Broadcast News, Electronic News Gathering, and Web Audio and Video. The typical teaching load is 12 units per quarter, with correspondingly reasonable research/scholarship and service expectations and with a significant reduction in course load in the first one to two years to help establish an active program of research and professional development. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The ideal candidate will have a combination of professional broadcast news, media management, and teaching experience; be conversant with FCC regulations as they apply to non-commercial radio; and be skilled in current digital and hybrid technologies for video and audio production.
We are seeking applicants with an earned master's degree in journalism or a related field. A doctorate in journalism, mass communication or a related field is preferred. Professional experience as a broadcast journalist or radio station manager is required, and experience working with student radio is highly desirable. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to, or potential for, teaching excellence and scholarly/creative activity at the university level and the ability to work effectively with students and colleagues in an integrated student media environment.

Candidates who can contribute to this goal in their teaching and scholarly work are encouraged to apply and identify their strengths and experiences in these areas. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
