SGS North America, Inc., St. Rose, LA. Responsible to direct the production, distribution and marketing operations for SGS Minerals Services Division branch located in St. Rose, LA. More specifically, the Branch Manager will be responsible for the following described managerial job duties:
Managing the coordination of production, distribution, warehousing, and sales in accordance with policies, principles and procedures established by Area Manager;
Serving as the primary point of contact with industry customers and representatives of associated industries to evaluate and promote improved and expanded services in area;
Developing plans for efficient use of materials, instruments, and employees;
Overseeing and monitoring of production costs and product quality, and modifying production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operations of SGS's branch office in St. Rose, LA;
Reviewing operations of competing organizations and planning and directing sales program to develop new markets;
Reviewing accounting records and managing Profit & Loss;
Recommending budget changes to Area Management;
Oversee performance of vessel draft surveys, barge surveys, on/off hire condition surveys, NH3 surveys and product inspections for vessels carrying a variety of products, including coal, fertilizers, cement, and steel;
Ensure that the vessels construction, machinery, equipment and cargoes meet governmental and international maritime and environmental regulations;
Utilize knowledge of ship construction, stability, terms and routines, as well as SGS's standard inspection and quality management procedures to supervise conducting marine surveys;
Use sophisticated draft surveying techniques (draft immersion) to calculate quantities of cargo loaded or discharged from vessels, taking into account any changes in weight that may take place during cargo operation;
Oversee cargo sampling and analysis and inspect cargo holds;
Use SGS standard methods and reporting procedures to product draft survey reports (including certificates of weight, certificates of analysis, and certificates of hold cleanliness and tightness);
Insure reports to clients in stand format and in accordance with corporate quality programs, policies, and procedures;
Provide expert opinions and guidance to clients on stowage and carriage of specialized cargoes, condition and suitability of vessels, including hull and machinery, cargo damage, cargo holding cleanliness and overall risk assessment to minimize the client's financial risks and liability; and utilize sampling and analysis methods and techniques to perform product/cargo inspections and ensure adherence with safety and environmental standards.
Must have a Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field, plus two (2) years of experience in the job offered or in an occupation which includes required experience/skills. In lieu of the relevant Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years of relevant experience, the company will accept four (4) years of relevant experience. Experience must include two (2) years of experience in marine surveying methodologies; two (2) years of experience with performing marine surveys, including vessel draft surveys, barge surveys, on/off hire condition surveys, and product inspections for vessels carrying a variety of dry bulk cargo and petroleum-based products; two (2) years of experience utilizing draft surveying techniques such as draft immersion and on/off hire surveys; two (2) years of experience with inspecting vessels' overall construction, machinery, equipment and cargo to insure they meet governmental and international maritime and environmental regulations; one (1) year of experience overseeing cargo sampling and analysis and inspecting cargo holds; one (1) year of experience preparing and reviewing draft reports to clients in accordance with industry programs, policies, and procedures; and one (1) year of experience with consulting dry bulk shipping clients on stowage and carriage of specialized cargoes.
