Summary: The ASPCAnyx and Breezy Shefts Adoption Center is based at our national headquarters in New York City. Animals who pass through our Adoption Center benefit from complete medical care, behavior assessment, socialization, and daily enrichment activities. The Adoptions team works to match pets with people based on lifestyle compatibility and brings animals to the public through their mobile adoption van, which travels throughout New York City's five boroughs to match adoptable pets with potential owners.
The Admissions Manager is responsible for managing the flow of animals into our shelter. Includes internal sources (i.e. kitten nursery, canine recovery center), intakes from the public, rescue groups and from other shelters as space allows.
The regular schedule for this position requires one weekend day. Additional flexibility and occasional nights and weekends may be required.
Responsibilities: ponsibilities include but are not limited to: Management (30%):
- Supervise Foster and Admission staff including mentoring, overseeing the use of overtime hours, professional development and performance reviews.
- Communicate job expectations and train direct reports in all of the above processes.
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures to ensure effective staff performance.
- Responsible for scheduling staff to ensure both foster and admissions functions are covered in a seven days work week.
Animal Admissions (30%):
- Ensure capacity is utilized efficiently and keep track of open cage space in accordance with our guidelines around prioritizing animal admissions.
- Manage the selection of shelter animals offsite (Animal Care Centers of NYC, etc.) and animals relinquished by owners and good samaritans, in accordance with our health and behavioral criteria.
- Oversee the list of persons waiting to surrender animals until cage space is available and schedule admissions appointments.
- Coordinate medical and behavior assessments of owner relinquished animals prior to admission.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills while interacting with the public, including unscheduled relinquishments (k-inswork with non-judgmental approach to a diverse range of pet owners while ensuring the best possible customer service.
- Prior to pet relinquishment, discuss pet owners concerns and coordinate exchange of information on behavioral and medical issues with the goal of increasing pet retention.
- Gather information regarding the petehavioral and medical history in the prior ownerome, which may include a written survey and conversation.
- Explain all options to an owner if the animal is found unsuitable for ASPCA admissions including options to keep the pet in the home.
- Policy and process writing for the admission of animals to the shelter.
- Administrative items such as generating animal ID numbers, creating records, and associated paperwork.
Foster (25%):
- Oversee the 92nd Street foster program to place shelter animals with foster volunteers, including scheduling, fulfilling supply requests, and coordinating the peteturn to the shelter.
- Work closely with medical staff to identify candidates for fostering and provide medication to animals going out to foster.
- Along with foster and admissions staff, provide customer service for fosters by speaking with them about concerns when they are picking up a foster animal and by responding to emails from fosters.
Transport (15%):
- Oversee partnership with the ASPCA Relocation Program to transfer in animals from shelters in the South.
- Manage the relationship with the Relocation Program and the Southern shelter staff.
- Coordinate choosing animals and allocating kennel space with other Adoptions teams.
