DESCRIPTION Ever wonder where Alexa's opinions come from? We make Alexa fun and interesting to talk to by leveraging technology to answering questions about her favorites and opinions at a massive scale.
Alexa is the Amazon cloud service that powers Amazon Echo family of devices. As a Software Development Manager, you will lead and support a team of engineers to invent, design, and launch new methods that enable Alexa to answer customer questions across multiple languages, and an ever broadening set of subjects.
We need someone who can scale and optimize an existing production system, while also inventing and delivering entirely new experiences from scratch. You don't need expertise in Machine Learning or Natural Language Understanding but should have curiosity about them. Above all, we're looking for someone who knows how to develop, support, and inspire a team of software engineers.
A successful candidate will have a solid understanding of software
design principles, demonstrated ability to lead an engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment, a desire to grow and develop the talents of others, and a passion for innovating on behalf of customers.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
· Hire, mentor, develop, and inspire a talented team of software engineers.
· Support the day-to-day activities of an engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment.
· Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach.
· Coordinate with other teams, some upstream, some downstream.
· Ensure the team executes project plans and delivers on commitments.
· Report on the status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS · Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
· 5+ years of experience designing and implementing software systems
· 2+ years of experience building consumer facing products or features
· 2+ years of experience managing software development engineers
· Demonstrated experience in delivering software projects using Agile/Scrum methodologies
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS · Experience with speech and language understanding systems, machine learning, or natural language understanding
· Experience with Alexa skill development
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
