Linux Platform Manager / Hands On Engineer

Job Function Summary: - The Compute Services organization is responsible for architecting, engineering, supporting and managing the firm's estate of servers, enterprise storage, systems virtualization and core enterprise services.
- The Senior Unix Engineer will be part of a team driving a large (7500 host) Unix fleet from both an engineering and a day-to-day operations persepective.
- The right candidate will be comfortable helping drive configuration management, troubleshooting, and performance analysis and tuning for a Linux fleet serving a diverse range of strategies within the firm.
- The successful candidate will be an SME in the Linux administration and scripting spaces and will have deep knowledge of Linux kernel and user-space operation.
Principal Responsibilities - Work closely with the diverse business teams within the firm to develop configurations aimed at repeatable build and configuration management
- Help drive a "green fieldtomation effort to bring consistent configuration to a diverse Unix fleet
- Mentor junior team members in best-practice Unix administration techniques
- Own technical projects and drive them to successful completion, including requirements gathering, engineering, deployment, and ongoing support
- Participate in 7x24x365 support for the company's Linux service as necessary, some late night and weekend work will be required
Qualifications/Skills Required
- 10-15+ years of experience in the Linux space is required
- Financial services experience is preferred but not required
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree (in Computer Science, Math or Engineering) is required
- Strong scripting skills (one or more of; sh, bash, Ruby, Perl, Powershell) required
- Good knowledge of at least once compiled language (C/C++/Java preferable)
- Experience and skill in troubleshooting and performance tuning hardware and operating systems
- Extensive knowledge of Unix operating systems, especially RHEL/CentOS
- Excellent inter-personal skills required to work closely with business partners, engineering, operations and vendors
- Strong analytical thinking skills with a service oriented mindset
- Quick learner, detail oriented; demonstrable thoroughness and strong ownership of work
- Good team player with a strong willingness to participate and help others
- Able to prioritize in a fast moving, high pressure, constantly changing environment; high sense of urgency
