Purpose As an associate of the Confection Scientific & Regulatory Affairs (SRA) central team, the Sr Program Manager Regulatory Affairs creates and sustains a competitive advantage for Mars Wrigley Confectionery (MWC) and supports the achievement of its overall business goals by leading the SRA chocolate internal and external strategy. The position is responsible for:
1) Driving internal and external activities and strategies related to regulatory monitoring, influencing and compliance;
2) Creating and leading the external Regulatory Affairs strategy related to ingredients harmonization activities, and strategic development for existing and new ingredients including regulatory approvals in alignment with Regional strategies and other Mars businesses;
3) Managing SRA issues related to chocolate category by addressing regulatory and/or technical issues that impact our products as well as to materialize opportunities to support our growth plans; and
4) Working with R&D teams to enable future chocolate innovations globally and supports and leadership to the Global S&RA team and provide mentorship to regional associates.
Responsibilities - Accountable for the development and execution of the global external regulatory influencing strategy related to the chocolate category.
- Works with internal partners to understand priorities and impacts of developing legislation and aligns appropriate external positions.
- Represents the company with global external partners to influence developing policy and legislation in line with our aligned positions in a proactive manner; takes leadership to materialize opportunities to support our growth plans.
- Accountable for providing regulatory and strategic guidance to relevant internal partners on existing and new regulations and emerging regulatory issues of interest to the Company and managing technical regulatory issues.
- Proactively influences global strategies by providing strategic advice to the SRA Leadership Team, Chocolate Business Units (CBU) and regions.
- Anticipates regulatory issues and works with legal counsel, consultants, suppliers, trade associations and other external partners to clarify and resolve these issues. Works in cross-functional and cross-segment project teams to support overall business goals.
- Influences internal strategy development by representing SRA in Senior Leader forums in the UK to communicate SRA positions and drive collaborative solutions and alignments.
- Maintains current knowledge on key developments in food law and policy via literature reviews, conference attendance, and participation in professional association activities so that the potential impact to MWC can be examined and addressed or opportunities can be generated and materialized and communicates relevant information to stakeholders.
- Manages and measures the functional workload of agreed business priority projects and the SRA driven functional work in their areas of accountability and escalates challenges where necessary.
- Mentors and may supervise the day-to-day activities of junior level associates on team.
Qualifications Education Minimum: Bachelorn science, food science, nutrition, food safety, or food process engineering or related sciences is required
Preferred: Master's degree in a technical area, such as food chemistry, nutrition, food science, biology, chemistry, toxicology or pharmacology and additional training course work in regulatory sciences
Knowledge/Experience
- 10+ yearsperience in scientific and/or regulatory compliance with food products and/or related product categories (such as food supplements, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals) with proficiency in food law, nutrition policy, and ingredient management on a global scale. Experience in the chocolate category is preferred.
- Experience working on large-scale regulatory projects involving formulas, ingredients, and labeling.
- Demonstrated track record of working successfully across functions to achieve shared goals, and proven ability to interact cross-functionally at all levels within the organization.
- Experience working with trade associations and government agencies to clarify and resolve regulatory matters.
- Strength in creating competitive and breakthrough strategies and plans.
