The Senior Manager of Tax is responsible for developing the strategies and setting the policies to ensure compliance with all governmental tax policies and procedures for the Company, participating in legislative efforts, formulating responses to audits and obtaining required licensees in new markets.
Principal Duties: * Lead and/or initiate tax planning strategies and efforts that create tax savings or deferral opportunities for the Company.
- Develop strategies to successfully manage the activities and results of the Tax Accounting functions related to internal and external reporting requirements.
- Oversee the completion of federal, state and local income tax returns, including all related analysis and support. Responsible for leading the audits of federal and state income tax and state and local filings through direct interaction with the respective Departments of Revenue. Partner with outside advisors as necessary.
- Oversee the accounting for income and non-income taxes in the Company's financial statements and the process to record the Company's inventory on a LIFO basis.
- Develop staff by explaining complex tax concepts and procedures, documentation and presentation requirements, research and writing techniques, business transactions, and tax minimization and audit defense strategy.
- Partner with outside advisors and Shareholder Service to develop estimates of taxable income on a quarterly basis. Based on these estimates, recommend a quarterly distribution amount to be paid to shareholders in accordance with applicable agreements.
- Develop and implement strategies to create an efficient tax structure while remaining aligned with the Company's risk profile.
- Oversee tax returns for the Company's multiple subsidiaries, as well as the completion of monthly fuel, sales and use and other returns.
- Act as a liaison to operating management and accounting staff on tax issues. Assist the Treasury department in forecasting and monitoring cash payments related to taxes.
- Provide overall direction and support for team and monitor and assess individual work in accordance with high standards of excellence. Provide feedback, coaching, support, opportunities for development, complete performance appraisals, take corrective action when appropriate, and participate in hiring decisions.

Minimum Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or related field preferred
- CPA, MBA or Masters of Taxation preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in Corporate tax department or Public Accounting tax group
- Experience working with attorneys and accountants strongly preferred
- Experience in dealing with confidential information
- Proficiency with stock and stock option tracking software strongly preferred
- Understanding of complex legal and tax matters
- Understanding of ERISA regulations and guidelines
- Experience with taxation in retail environment preferred
- Experience with pass-through entities preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
- Knowledge of Enterprise Reporting Systems (SAP preferred)
- Knowledge of tax accounting
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Office suite applications
