The Vehicle Refinishes manufacturing site in Pontiac, MI has an outstanding opportunity for a driven, experienced professional to assume the role of Process Engineer. This position assists manufacturing by monitoring processes and implementing procedures to improve overall plant efficiency and maintain product quality.
The Pontiac site primarily produces Solvent and Water Borne Coatings to service our Vehicle Refinishes, Automotive and Trade Finishes (Commercial Vehicle and Sign Finishes) products. The site makes 1700 different products and employees approximately 185 individuals.
- Support formula entry and work order routings and structures. Verifies accuracy of formula and instructions.
- Develops and monitors time studies for accuracy in routings and structures and corrects discrepancies.
- Supports equipment use by providing input on proper equipment selection, and training employees on equipment use. Monitors equipment efficiency and makes appropriate recommendations.
- Implements and maintains state-of-the-art processing techniques by reviewing and analyzing current available processes to maximize effective production capabilities.
- Contributes to the initiation and supports small capital projects.
- Assists in writing SOPnd work instructions. Audits the manufacturing process to assure that SOPnd work instructions are understood and performed accurately. Performs FMEA/li>
- Assist 8D process issues determining Root Cause of issues and possible corrective actions.
- Support process related aspects of the Kaizen program. Investigate process issues, determine resolution, coordinate and report solutions.
- Maintains a safe work environment by observing Akzo Nobel Coatingsfety rules to insure compliance with federal, state and local environmental and safety regulations.
- Promotes the ISO quality system through adhering to elements of the ISO 9000-2002.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications - Bachelor Degree in Engineering or manufacturing related field required.
- Three plus yearsperience in a paint-manufacturing or batch processing environment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point.
- Must be able to lift 65 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
- Also requires extensive bending and stooping.
- Candidate must be able to work in a manufacturing & laboratory environment and be capable of wearing an air purifying respirator. To wear a respirator per OSHA regulations, candidate must pass medical evaluation and fit testing to qualify as a respirator user.
