As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.
Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.

About the Opportunity
We're looking for a Backend Engineer who can help architect robust backend systems that support our product offerings, including a real-time analytics system as well as an industry search engine that play a mission-critical role for some of the world's largest publishers, media companies, and technology companies.
- Take part in pushing billions of transactions per day through probabilistic data structures.
- Working with columnar databases and advanced PostgreSQL features to improve performance of analytical workloads.
- Collaborating with Amazon developers and helping to shape the product roadmap of several AWS services.
- Build backend services and interfacing with other APIs.
- Scaling a global web crawler to help transform unstructured web data to structured data.
- Managing thousands of EC2 instances
- Help design and engineer the architecture for scalability, high availability, performance, flexibility, operational efficiency, security and maintainability.
About You - 3+ years of professional experience.
- BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, engineering, or other related field.
- Experience with multiple languages, web frameworks, and datastores.
- Extensive experience with one (or all) - Python, C, C++, Shell, and Unix.
- Depth experience in one or more of the following areas: distributed data processing, complex web-app design, and/or cloud infrastructure design (AWS).
