The Boeing Company is currently recruiting for a Research and Development Engineer to join the Next Gen Composite Materials Team In St Louis, MO.
Primary Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Leading technical projects and a team to develop and transition composite materials, processes, and analysis tools.
- Lead internal composites development projects transitioning technologies to Boeing commercial, defense, and space customers.
- Work with the Next Gen Composites team to develop new composite materials, processes, and analysis tools.
- Lead external contract research and development projects, transitioning technologies to external government organizations like the Air Force, NASA, and Navy.
- Leading, mentoring and transitioning knowledge to early career engineers

Qualifications This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Experience in composite materials, processes, and simulation or analysis tools.
- Experience shaping, winning, and executing contract research and development
- Experience in research and development
- Transitioning technologies from R&D to a product or platform
- Experience with composite materials or resins and fibers relevant to energy, automotive, and aerospace industries
- Experience leading or managing a team or project
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Positive and collaborative attitude able to lead a team and communicate results of projects to all stakeholders in written and verbal forms.
- Self-starter who can find enterprise needs for technology and create and execute an actionable R&D plan to close the technology gap.
- Experience working in structural materials and trades between metals, composites, and ceramics
- Experience in part design, strength analysis, CAD, FEA, progressive damage and failure, process modeling, materials modeling (molecular)
- Understanding of state of the art methods for composite processing and fabrication, esp. automated processes.
- Interest in continuing to educate yourself about the aerospace industry and composite materials and processes used in the industry
- Hands on experience fabricating composite parts
Typical Education/Experience:
Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
