OVERVIEW L3 Technologies - Advanced Laser Systems Technology (ALST) is a world leader in the development and production of advanced laser rangefinders, designators, targeting systems and components. Based in Orlando, FL, ALST supports all branches of the United States Military, allied nations, OEM customers, border security and development labs.
POSITION PURPOSE The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is part of a multi-disciplinary team planning, developing and implementing manufacturing processes for advanced laser range finders and laser designators. This position contributes to the processes involving the laser based electro optical systems, tooling, test equipment and the manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Work with design engineers and others, to ensure all product and system requirements are taken into account from the initial product conception to the finished product design and are adequately tested and verified.
- Liaise with suppliers and customers.
- Identify faults, investigate production problems and institute corrective action quickly and efficiently. If a major failure occurs institute and support the RCCA process.
- Institute, monitor, analyze and report to upper management the results of a Continual Improvement Program.
- Institute, collect and analyze statistical metrics that monitor and determine production efficiencies.
- Develop training programs and provide training on process and assemblies.
- Develop work instructions for new products and update for existing products.
- Promote and support Lean cultural developmental through coaching, training, and facilitating. Provide direction to teams in Lean concepts such as A3 Problem Solving, 5S, Time Studies, Standardized Work, Visual Management, etc.
- Develop manufacturing processes for new products, including Military Eye Safe Laser Range Finders and Laser Designators.

- Institute, monitor, analyze and report to upper management the results of a Continual Improvement Program.
- Institute, collect and analyze statistical metrics that monitor and determine production efficiencies.
- Adapt existing tools, optics and equipment to meet changing production needs and new products.
- Design, as required, new tools, optical benches and equipment to meet changing production needs and new products.
- Provide input to product engineers to improve the manufacturability of new and existing products.
- Specify new equipment such as optical test equipment, assembly equipment, inspection equipment.
- Design manufacturing jigs and fixtures.
- Lay out and improve work areas and equipment.
- Troubleshoot product and test equipment.
- Monitor and report process performance metrics.
- Provide estimates for new products including capital expenditures, process development labor and materials, setup and changeover labor, standard labor hours, lead time, and throughput.
- Improve the quality, reduce cost, improve schedule, and reduce the risk of existing processes.
- All other assignments as required.
Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline, from an accredited university; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Advanced degree preferred.
8+ years' experience in process design, development and testing of optical and electro-optical components and systems.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Detailed knowledge of Laser and Optics, testing, integration, documentation and configuration control.
Knowledge of design for manufacturability and reliability, to include laboratory and system level laser diagnostics.
Proven background in creative problem solving.
Thorough understanding of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement methodologies and statistical process controls.
Experience working on multiple product development cycles from concept through production.
Experience with the integration and test of preproduction prototypes and documentation of laser level assembly, alignment and test techniques.
Familiar with MRP software.
Self-starter, able to work on projects with multiple deadlines and tight time constraints.
Proven success in a fast paced development and manufacturing environment and possess a willingness to take ownership, accept accountability, and thrive under pressure.
Possess exceptional communication (both oral and written) and listening skills, with a strong orientation to details, and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
Ability to make presentations to large audiences including customers, government personnel and senior management team members.
Strong relationship building skills at all levels of an organization and the ability to work effectively across functions within a matrix environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).

- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. Passport.
- Able to travel nationally / internationally on an as needed basis.
- Able to work weekends and evenings as required to meet company objectives
