Job description POSITION PURPOSE: This is a mid-level position within the Pump engineering group able to take the basic skills learned and apply them with increasing independence.
The Pump Product Engineer is responsible for supporting all technical needs within the product line including support for product design, manufacturing and the end user. In addition, this role will develop and be targeted to support analytical work like FEA, industry code interpretation, and other analytical based activities.
POSITION DUTIES: - Creates and reviews designs, drawings, DBI's (database information), specifications, etc. of existing technology or applications and ensures that assignments meet standards and performance requirements within area of expertise.
- Develop in the skill of FEA analysis and apply this to solve complex problems.
- Uses the CAD/CAM and database systems and facilities to make layouts, analyze designs, evaluate equipment systems and generate new equipment designs.
- Prepares documentation, information and communications such as ECN (Engineering Change Notices), DBI (Data Base Information) and engineering specifications and ensures conformance to all policies and procedures related to engineering functions, labor reporting and systems reporting.
- Conducts analysis, ensures that designs are workable, makes recommendations and develops alternative solutions with conclusions reviewed by higher levels.
- Consults with other departments on equipment designs, problems and questions.
- Prepares technical data and papers for sales personnel, customers and publications. Makes field trips with sales and service personnel with new products and technical applications.
- Tests and evaluates prototypes and products to determine design limits and needed improvements. Prepares test reports and closure reports on engineering project assignments.
- Assists and checks the work of drafters, designers and less experienced engineers. Helps prepare project plans, schedules, budgets and status reports.
- Participates in product standardization projects.
- Organizes deliverables effectively and manages the workload and deliverables of themselves and other resources related to assigned tasks
- Attends appropriate industry related professional society meetings and functions in order to stay informed of and make good use of new technology, products and personal development opportunities.
- Consults with other local & Divisional sources as required.
- Participates as a team member & communicates information to appropriate parties at the appropriate time.
- Has some customer contact, usually with supervision. Makes presentations.
- Begins to develop relationships with customer technical or service personnel.
- Encourages positive feedback from all directions. Receptive to critical comments; actively seeks out diverse perspectives.
- Demonstrates solid understanding of policies & procedures that apply to assignments.
- Operates within local organization and accomplishes work with limited consultation.
- Receives general instructions for routine projects & detailed instructions for more complex projects.
- Receives some guidance on process & timing.
- Uses independent judgment in determining how to approach / solve problems.
- Assists plant & field operations with new equipment assembly and installation; and resolving QN and field non conformances.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: - BS Degree in Engineering (ABET Accredited), Mechanical preferred.
- Two+ years of experience applying working principles within assigned technical field or MS degree in Engineering and no experience.
- Working knowledge of specific process technologies, procedures, products and applications.
- Working knowledge of at least one FMC or related product line - exposure to other lines. Some knowledge of competitor products.
- Demonstrated ability to create functional & cost effective designs that meet specification requirements with supervision.
- Demonstrates some capability for conceptualizing designs.
- Some understanding of internal economic factors affecting projects to which assigned.
- Must be proficient in use of CAD and Database systems related to Engineering functions.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities is important.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback and coaching, and respond appropriately.
- Able to present data and facts in a clear and concise manner.
- Able to proficiently communicate ideas and concepts, developing the ability to persuade and influence others as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Possible exposure to hazards such as noise, heavy equipment, temperature extremes, chemicals, etc. while working in Engineering laboratory, assembly areas and field service applications.
