Role Summary/Purpose As part of GE Digital, supporting GE Aviation (GEA), the Sr Software Engineer will be responsible for developing software applications for the Engine Test Systems product category. Products include big data solutions for managing and analyzing engine data flowing in from sensors and control systems located in multiple engine test facilities located around the world.
Essential Responsibilities As a developer on this team, you will get the opportunity to work with a number of exciting technologies as we continue to modernize IT systems and deliver world-class solutions to our engineering community. You will be responsible for programming a component, feature and or feature set. Works independently and contributes to the immediate team and to other teams across business. You will also contribute to design discussions
In this role, you will: - Be responsible for providing technical leadership and defining, developing, and evolving software in a fast paced and agile development environment
- Work with Product Owners to understand product requirements & vision
- Translate requirements / vision into prioritized list of user stories and deliver to required timelines and quality standards
- Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse
- Support process improvements which guide the development, sustaining & support activities
- Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products
- Communicate effectively both within immediate team and across leadership teams
- Engage subject matter experts in successful transfer of complex domain knowledge
- Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile/XP, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, refactoring and Testing Techniques
- Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project
- Understand performance parameters and assess application performance
- Proactively share information across the team, to the right audience with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness
- Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy and results
- Work on core data structures and algorithms and implement them using technology chosen
Qualifications/Requirements Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in Mjors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
- A minimum of 5 years professional experience in application development

Desired Characteristics Technical Expertise:
- Experience and expertise of the Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, SaFe, etc.)
- Proficiency with various agile and collaboration tools like Rally, Aha, and Confluence.
- Experience with the following technologies (Java EE, Cassandra Databases, Cassandra CQL, Rabbit MQ, MySQL, and JavaScript)
- Environments (Windows, Linux)
- Proficiency with the following software development tools (Maven, Github, Eclipse, and Artifactory)

- Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts
- Demonstrates the initiative to explore alternate technology and approaches to solving problems
- Ability to analyze impact of technology choices
